OK I have decided to install one and give it a try. I really hope it improves my fuel mileage because we all want to save fuel. Thank you Hans and Ben for the install kit already made up when unit arrived. It was very easy to install.
The only bad thing about comparing fuel mileage this time of year is we are going from Winter Blend Fuel to Summer Blend Fuel. The Colonial Pipeline that serves my region switches over on April 1st, so no matter what the fuel mileage will improve this time of year like it always does and this includes the weather improving fuel mileage too.
The Colonial Pipeline delivers all fuel to the Southeast and the entire east coast including the northeast.

According to Conoco Phillips Refinery that supplies the Colonial Pipeline, they change to Summer Blend starting April 1st through August 31st. It moves through the pipeline into the tank farms and finally to the truckstops that pretty much the end of April thru May the truckstops are switching over to this different forumla of diesel with a higher cloud point.
Cloud and Pour Point Requirements:

Pascagoula Area and Colonial and Plantation Pipelines

April 1 - August 31................+20..........................+10

I did take a picture of some fill ups before I installed the EcoTaz and will post pictures of fill ups while using the EcoTaz Eco-5.

Right after I filled up yesterday (3/29/12), I installed the EcoTaz Eco-5 on my truck that took about 10 minutes and even confirmed with Ben that it was installed correctly.
Before EcoTaz. (Note: the primer pump has been removed with modified cap)

EcoTaz Eco-5 Installed.

I did bobtail 23 miles with it and could not tell any difference, but bobtailing it would be hard to tell much difference anyway. Idle did not seem any different once it got the air of the system from adding the device. I did not need to prime my system due to the FASS pump did that for me which is why I removed the primer pump restriction in the fuel system and maybe be why the idle is already smooth with it.
I do have a dedicated run to pick up on Monday that delivers on Tuesday and should have first fill up using EcoTaz by Wednesday. I have 5 dedicated runs scheduled this month so far and they may add a couple of more to the schedule.
I really hope this improves my fuel mileage because who wouldn't want better fuel mileage to pad the bottom line.
Note: On mygauges, my MPG Average for January was 9.20 mpg, February was 9.05 mpg and March will be 9.20 mpg that I am at home till April 2nd. February would have been better except for a long wild run with an oversize (12' wide) and overweight (88K gross) bought down all my dedicated runs during the month.
I may also consider taking it off after 30 or 60 days to check fuel mileage again with better fuel quality and weather affecting the fuel mileage in the summer months. January-March is the worse months to compare and may need to compare April and May with June and July to get a true picture.rollin coal, king Q, SHC and 3 others Thank this. -
What can I say?
Now you have my attention.
Thanks Ben , thanks Dice.
If I was suspicious I would say the drawn out jousting that got us to this point was a really well played out marketing ploy.
No , not even Ben is that tenacious. -
The primer pump is a restriction? Where did you get that cap for it? I never use the primer pump might as well pull it out.

Many years ago I fitted an extra lift pump at the tank of a 1976 Mercedes truck with an OM355 engine.
This was because it was almost impossible to reach the OE fitted unit.
I had to remove it because it impeded performance when there was high fuel demand. -
There is a thread in the garage section about this. I think the thread was actually about reverse fuel flow on a cat.Dice1 Thanks this.

I installed my Eco on Sunday night, it was quick and easy and I did not notice any difference in idle quality. I loaded an oversized piece of ag equipment on Monday morning headed to Florida. This is a run that I do quite regularly, only difference this time is I fought wind the whole way down. So I can not say that I noticed any difference good or bad.
My second load this week was an oversized crate 10'4" wide, 17' long, 9'5" tall and 42,000lbs. Not something you put on a step deck and expect to get any decent fuel mileage with. I got 5.03 pulling that back north, I also was in a big hurry to beat curfew times and get as far as I could as the load had to deliver this morning. I drove 70-75 mph, I otherwise always drive 65, so to be honest I was surprised that I did that good. Was it the Eco? I have no idea.
I don't think it would be fair to Ben or any of the other members on here for me to speculate what my fuel mileage would have been. So to be fair and honest for the sake of us all I will only post averages on a bi-weekly basis.
I really do hope that this thing works, but I refuse to drive my truck any slower than I already do to make it appear that it does. I spent over $103,000 in fuel alone last year, I wouldn't mind spending a little less this year. I should also add that I did not notice any difference in power, good or bad. -
Dices Comments on the Winter and Summer blends is correct. If I may add also, is the fact that the Month of April according to the Fuel companies, is that you will have cross contamination of the fuels (winterblend mixing with summer blends). So you may not see the full potential of summer blends till sometime in May.
Dice1 Thanks this. -
I agree and is a bad time to compare with past MPGs. Fuel Mileage always improves this time of year due to quality of fuel and weather improving.
The mild March weather might be close to April, but May would probably be better compared to June and July. -
Don't mean to change subject on this thread, but I believe this helps out.
This talks about replacing primer pump on Cat motor. (Another member here "Robsredford" did mine for me)
[ame]http://youtu.be/Qp3Jb_qAxH8[/ame]
This one improves entire fuel system on Cat. (I have not done this one yet)

Don't let anybody tell you a Cat motor can't get great fuel mileage.Last edited: Mar 31, 2012
