04 KW with a 13 spd. freedom line and factory PTO. Driving it home I thought the switch was for some kind of defroster, and turned it on a few times. Turns out it's for the factory PTO.
Did I smoke the PTO? How do I test it? I'd like to put a wetkit on the truck but am not interested in replacing the PTO if it's hashed now.
Is there a way to remove some plugs and check the flow rate or something?
Thank you.

isnt there some kind of lock-out device that keeps the pto from being engaged unless a specific series of steps are followed? Sorry i dont get to crawl around these trucks too much, and i think I saw a picture of you dash but can you give us a photo of that switch, also can you pull the switch and get me the p/n off the side of it. Seems kind of dangerous to be so simple to engage, but all part of a factory install. Could the switch be just for the pump for the PTO?

Thanks for your reply. I don't know about a lock out. I do know that the switch is for the PTO. The local KW dealer confirmed it's for the factory PTO a while back. I also know it's equipped because the last ECM dump I did showed PTO hours.
As soon as I mention checking the "PTO" to the KW service department I see dollar signs rolling in their eyes like the cartoons.
You'd think it'd have a lockout, yes. That one switch, however, is the only PTO switch in the truck. -
Are you sure it is a live PTO switch? I can't believe that if you flipped it while moving that you wouldnt notice something grinding.

Kenworth checked the part number and also confirmed it. There must be a safety lockout. I sure hope so.
