Hi everybody. My closest friends and family call me Chaos, so i figure I'll use that as my trucking handle as well.

I'm about to start school in April with HMTT in Minnesota.
I have pre-hires with Werner, Schneider, Roehl and TMC.
I came here to get any information and advice from anyone with experience in the trucking industry, and any experience with the trucking company's that I mentioned....Thanks!

Out of the 4 roehl and tmc are the better ones to work for. Honestly! You don't want to do this for a living. 1. It's 3 checks amonth not 4. You always have dispatch and other jerking you around. So figure it like this. 3x500 is 1500 per month. This industry pays on an 8 day clock. Not the 5 day clock ur use to. On a 4 week month it's 3 checks. And 4 on a 5 week month. And that if the trucking company doesn't. Cheat you on the 5 week month. You also have to pay for every personal expense. And the cost of traveling is high. Down time on the road is spent in a parking lot living in the truck. Which can go on for days. The rule is.the wheels have to be spinning to make a living. So which means. Sitting weather on the road or at home is a loss out of your pocket. You make mistake with a load. Dispatch will leave you for dead. It's called starving. You off the road. Thrucking companies rarely ever fire drivers. Another thing that is a topic of drivers. Is the treatment and poor working conditions. And all trucking companies will try to get you to work 70 hours for as little as possible. And treat you like ur ripping them off. I can keep going. And many of the real drivers on here can ad stories and details. And never run out.

Thanks for the reply. I've read several other threads here at Truckers Report, and I've come to the conclusion that I'll have to work for a crappy, big trucking corporation for at least 1 year before I can get a better paying job, with a smaller company that requires at least 1 year of experience.
As of right now, I'm leaning towards Roehl. They seem to have the best reputation, and they're not too far away from home....Thanks again for the reply!

Roehl seems like a good outfit, welcome and goodluck. Stay away from the jaded/ignorant naysayers and you'll be fine. It'll be tough at first, I mean real tough, I had 3 guys alone jump the truck when I started with my first company, this was the first week. It does get better with time, and a lot better once you're done with training and on you're on.

I Agree any company can be bad or good in any profession. It is "WHAT YOU MAKE IT" Good luck at school and dont be in a rush to go with any company. Do your research and choose wisely. I wish you the best of luck. HINT: Dont let the company know your family and friends call you Chaos LOL

I agree! Who ever you decide on. Remember that you want to stay there 3 plus years. If not longer. Too many jobs in too short of a time period. Is worse then having a wreck. I am at the end of the career field. I've. Been it it since the day I was born. So after 37 years. I have decided it's time for a life without trucking. Some good advice. Don't make it a habit to hang out at the terminals with the other company drivers. They will get to hating on there job. And then that will suck you into there trap. Next thing you know. You will be out of a job over some else's hate. So pretty much keep to your self. And focus on the plan you have made. And everything will be fine.

as a fellow newbie, you just need to find a company that fits you and your needs. each company has several things they do, regional dedicated routes, otr and so on and so on... do your homework and ask lots of questions about everything and if things dont line up awnser wise, chances are thier full of poop!!!

I don't know what companies you have been with, but they are obviously the wrong ones. True trucking may not be for everyone and it does require sacrifices. However with a positive attitude it can be rewarding!
