So why don't more companies pay drivers "salary" instead of mileage or percentage.
I would rather you give me $1100 per week to start and run me like that. Flat rate. This is based off 36 CPM and a 3000 mile week.
I might run 3400 miles, I might run 2600. I wouldn't care if I was sitting on a live load/unload or what the delay was. I would get paid the same.
I wouldn't have a paycheck that could bounce as much as $500-600 per pay period.
So long as it was based on an annual weekly average of what the driver would make and realistic.
I could plan accordingly as a driver.
They do similar for dispatchers. ( I was paid hourly for 40 hours)
If anything as a fleet manager, it would force my dispatchers to be a lot more responsible for time management of things.
Driver pay.....

I think it is because they are used to not having a cost to cover when they fail to book freight for the truck. Otherwise, they would be more tied to moving the truck rather than letting it sit.
No other business or employee thinks of sitting for free.pathfinder1361 Thanks this. -
i like the theory behind this but companies won't do it as long as people will work for .30 cpm
but i think it would solve alot of the turnover problems of this industryrodknocker Thanks this. -
if I were an expanding company, I'd do it. I would be able to pick and choose who the hell I put in my truck.
You screw up, I'll put you down the road faster than you know it. But I would also have better drivers to begin with too.
(thinking this will go in the business plan) -
I'm paid on salary....same amount gets transferred from the business account to the personal account each and every week.

You and I- and a lot of people reading this have a WORK ETHIC.
We get up early, grab a cup of Joe and move out. Eleven hours later we park and do it all over again.
Not everybody thinks this is a good way to truck- unfortunately a lot of drivers sleep in, stay up late and miss appointments.
Mileage pay means no money until the work is completed. Salary means you get the same amount of pay if you goof off- or work hard.
It's a no-brainer.rodknocker, OhioHotshot, MNdriver and 8 others Thank this. -
I get paid salary, I work for an OTR co. and have a sleeper but rarely use it. I run the same roads with the same load 5 nights aweek.
It's nice knowing that fixed amount will be deposited every week, not only that but when I was offered this gig they (my company) didn't know I lived around the corner from my stop!
If the did they would've dropped my pay$200

I agree with u brother every company will take care of their good drivers and reward them with perks others wont have. Like a new truck or requested days off fast with pay or a loan. Im good for it with my company and I havent been here too long. Work hard bottom line and u will see results.Licensed to kill and dave26027 Thank this.

Like this other driver we have he wont pull doubles or flatbed, stays up playing x box n is always running late then he whines that he dont get no miles! Then he gets mad at me cuz I burn him every week with over a thousand miles n goes to cries to the office. Forget that guy!

I got into this with a company because it was performance based pay. Salary sucks...I'd rather be in control. If you do what they ask and don't complain good money follows.
