You see the profit come in but goes right back out:
4.39 diesel which there is always a line
Walmart 100 mile round trip and always sold out of at least 2 things you need
Same goes for parts 100 mile round trip, line out the door, and don't have your part.
20 trucks in line and Mcd's
And weather sheesh, the wind changes direction so fast it seems like there is always a headwind.
Last winter was record light, but is stupid how dangerous is gets out here.
1000+ per room minimum for housing if you can find it
So as you can see the rates are higher but i think after dealing with all this crap and your net is the same if not more, but much greater quality of life.
Great jobs in Texas

I tried to call and the only info that I got was they had just shut the yard down. Oh well thanks for the tip. I will keep on trying. I will be in San Antonio at noon tomorrow and head south towards Victoria to see what I can find

Went to San Antonio Job fair, waste of time for me actually. Drove 90 miles down there to stand in each line to hear a rep tell me that I could go to their website and see what job postings there are. Will try to post some more info later. Sanjel had almost nobody in their line. The rep told me that their drivers are only driving 10% of the time, the rest of the time they are setting up gear, and she said you would be repeatedly lifting 120 lb. objects over your head all day. Like she was trying to turn people off. Chesapeake said one of their companies (I believe near Pearsal) was hiring drivers to run local, as was Weatherford. Schlumberger was looking for hotshot drivers for local work
. All of the driving jobs I saw were for local work, home every day, not staying out for days at a time. ( I am looking for a job that keeps me out a week or two at a time) But I had to leave early and did not get to speak with every company there.
None of the reps I spoke with knew much or would speak much about their out of state operations, all of them just said to check out their websites. If I can think of anything else I will post it.pathfinder1361 and Bikerdave Thank this. -
the tornado strike at the schneider terminal in dallas was schocking with the flying box trailer! i noticed at least 3 new looking schneider dry bulk tankers (sand i believe). didn't look like they were in use at the time.

What in the world is this " do I get a reach around with that?" We were riding with the Cementer after running a job for a drilling company and they were saying the same thing in the F250... Never heard this expression before in Washington State... Enlighten the new arrivals on the lingo hehe...

The trucking company is "immediately" behind you. You're not really being made happy. Use your imagination? lol

I thought this thread was about informing people of job opportunities in Texas?
There are plenty of jobs here and just in the past two weeks it seems like even more jobs have become available. From what I see "mom and pop" could not handle the demand out here. If "mom and pop" has the money in the bank to add 40 new drivers and all the equipment in a matter of a few weeks then I am sure they will do just fine. If not then there will be someone out there to pick up the slack because there is money to be made and these guys want the oil out of the ground NOW.
Not sure about the argument that big trucking companies are losing money in the oil patch. Each tanker truck runs 170 barrels ($18K value load) of oil in an 8-10 hr period and there are LOTS of trucks on the road. At the port of Victoria there are two barges loading 24/7 and they hold 100 trucks each (over $3.5M value load). At all the terminals I run to I see they are adding more bays so more trucks can load at the same time. There is NO sign of a recession here!
As for pay, if you think anyone is tanking oil for $45K you have been misinformed. I've yet to find one person making less than $60K in the Victoria,TX area. Some who have the experience are making $3K a week and some fresh drivers are making around $1200 per week. You would have to run a lot of OTR miles to make that kind of money! If you are in or looking to relocate to the Victoria area, making $45K or less and have 6 months experience tanking then PM me and I can help inform you of some things I am hearing and seeing in the Victoria area. I am NOT a recruiter, just trying to pay a favor forward because it was people on here who helped convince me this could be done. If you do PM me I will try to get back to you soon but it may take a day or two as I am very busy and have not wifi in my home at this time.
No offense to anyone on this board. I am not looking to gripe at you or argue with you, but please don't mislead people who may need to work in order to survive in this economy. Every company has issues and you will not find 100% of the employees at ANY company who are happy with their company.
So here is the bottom line people... you can sit in your town and listen to all the misinformation or you can do like me, get down here, see it for yourself and make some serious cash. If you have lots of experience then you are in high demand and can make 6 figures. If you want an easy job and you do not want to work out in the patch for 20 hours straight and you want to come home every night you should be able to clear close to $60k before taxes. I talk to OTR truckers everyday who say the job I was hired to do is EASY and they wish this would have been around sooner. You work 10-12 hrs, get your load done and then you go home to your bed every night. I work 6 days and I am off for 2. If you are looking to grind, sleep in a man camp, and work more hours a week then head out to an oil services company. I saw a company just put out an ad, I believe they are called Frac Tech, looking to hire 70-120 new workers.
So there you have it, the work is there. Are you willing to do what it takes to seize the opportunity?THIRSTY, Ben Gunn and starsonwindow Thank this.
