Well Joey there are companies that do not pay anything but miles they do not even pay when you are waiting for days for your next load assignment. They are also the ones who are always looking for drivers in multiples of 10 to keep ##### in the seats of their trucks. Now if we are talking pay back, that hour you are not getting paid for pick up a few of the truck mags and start applying at other outfits. Your first free hour may be your last if you can find a company that is a better fit. When the hour is up set the mags down til the next morning. The company is not going to change you have to make your own changes. When you find another job you can pull in with Hank loud and proud TAKE THIS JOB AND SHOVE IT.

If the OP would come on and clarify exactly how they get paid it would help a lot. We are all guessing OTR but who knows, maybe they are just trolling?

I found a job that pays by the hour with OT after 8. I'm pretty happy here.

I was being sarcastic. It just seems that a lot of drivers advocate working for free, like trucking is some sort of higher calling. I work to earn a living, not to make others rich.

Well, I have a unionized hourly paid job... We are "allowed" 35 minutes to pre-trip tractor, trailer, dolly, trailer, hook them up, at the guard gate and get out of the yard :biggrin_2555: Also you have the "responsibility" to get into the building on the docks, b!tch at a "supervisor" who's responsible for having your rear trailer loaded on time... And they are often running behind because the dock workers are all unionized and they are all b!tching as well...

Anything more than 35 mins than you will hear endless b!tching from above, oh yea, I go in a little early and donate 10 15 minutes daily to do my thing and b!tch at that dock "supervisor"...

So yea, my company encourage b!tching, it is a culture and we have b!tches at every level...

It sounds like you're lucky to even have one paid for. But look at it this way. You do the inspections to catch problems that can pop up and cost you a lot of time for repairs. It's safety and taking care of the equipment at the same time. If you have to do it for free then you do it for yourself. Think of the time saved when you catch a wheel seal going out over one that has been gone for enough miles to start a fire.
