My biggest fear of getting into this is ####### tornado's..I know it sounds wimpy and I'm gonna get flamed by you hard ##### but isn't there a device you can use 24/7 that will alert you if there are any nearby warnings? (For when your sleeping too). There was one in Dallas today that threw a semi up into the tornado and wrecked a lot.

I doubt you'll get flamed. Tornados are serious and it's easy to have a supercell roll up on you. It's something to definitely be prepared for when rolling the alley states. I was at a truck stop that had one roll past while I was taking my 10. I will say without hesitation I think I am lucky to be alive. I woke up to a chain link fence post being blown straight through my sleeper, a foot from me. I freaked, rolled into the floor, and pulled the mattress on top of me. After it was over, I had no other damage. Some trucks got jacked up. I had a neat 3 inch hole through each side of my sleeper.

the worst thing you can do is drive when a tornado is near. You can see the videos of the schneider yard and the trucks being thrown around like styrofoam.

You pretty much have to look after yourself....If you are at a truckstop sleeping, the people working or even the other drivers will not likely go truck to truck to make sure everyone gets to safety....So be aware of the forecast and look at radars and it would help if you had a weather radio.

Here is a video that I took a couple of weeks ago.

This is a pretty amazing site if you haven't found it. It is something I check during storm season to get an idea in advance of where strong storms will be and as of yet all the severe storms did fall within the regions with greater probabilities. Their labeling is a bit understated though. If there is a SLGT chance it is usually pretty good chances storms will happen and the next level generally is right on the nose. http://www.spc.noaa.gov/

That and as someone said a weather radio that has a warning function is handy. A scanner will to listen to storm spotters can be handy as well.

One of the best things the internet provides is actual radar images when you want them. Use to hate depending on the local news stations either breaking away to show the radar or putting the pathetic little view in the corner. Direct access to the NWS is pretty sweet.
