I have a 2005 379 with a C15 acert set at 550 hp. Occasionally, the check engine light comes on and derates itself, usually just as the engine hits about 150-160 degrees. It stays on anywhere from 10-25 minutes then goes off and power is normal. It flashes codes 95 and 14, which deals with the IVA on the #6 cylinder I think. Does the actuator need replacing, or could something else be causing this?

Under valve cover wiring harness are common to fail.

Correct, on mine the plug on IVA #1 was cracked and would occasionally break contact with the pin. Any dealer can sell you just the pigtails if you don't want to replace the whole harness. I bought the entire thing but when I found the problem I just replaced the end rather than dealing with all the wiring. I think the whole wiring harness was like $108.
Code 95 is somewhat common, the sensor on the passenger side front of the head is a POS and was built by the lowest bidder. Luckily it's easy to replace.

You'll find once you do one, there will be more come, i grafted two iva pigtails on one of my units harness and it came back two weeks later with broken wires to the one of the injectors. Even tho its a pain and a real time taking job I dont mess around and just change the whole harness.

Oh I believe you, I've still got the full harness incase.
