    Got a friend that bought a hay farm drives the truck ( day cab ) 50-175 miles one way per day .

    Question :
    Does the driver need a CDL ? The truck does have air brakes , pulling a low boy , pull equipment etc .. The other truck is a class B truck such as a lime truck .

    Question 2
    Lic requirements : USDOT or just state

    Pulls heavy sometimes up to 60k gross

    Question 3

    Log book - medical card

    Is it needed ?

    Thanks I didn't have the answers for them and hoped to find some here

    F endorsement covers this...........air brakes is all that is needed. No CDL as long as you dont cross state line and stay within 150 air miles of home farm. No log book needed. USOT # is required.

    Depends on the state. Some states don't require a USDOT number even. Citation: http://www.fmcsa.dot.gov/registration-licensing/registration-usdot.htm

    This get complicated. It is state specific. And it can get complicated. In IL, my business partner owns a farm. He needs a class A, no CDL, no medical, no drug testing. But can only haul HIS crop to market.

    Employees can get away with just class A but need medical and must be in drug consortium. And there are a whole bunch of different rules depending on what is being hauled and for who.

    Agreed. It does get complicated and it does very slightly from state to state.

    Here in ND as long as we are hauling OUR own stuff and abiding by the load limits, all we need is a regular driver's license if we stay within 150 miles. We only have the state license plates, no USDOT #. We also do not run a log book or have medical cards;
