So I am in the market for a radio, I am new to all of this and I am looking at a few different ones and was curious others opinions on them. One is a Cobra 148 that has been tweaked and peaked to 40 watts (offered to me from a friend for a good price), the second one is Sparky's cobra 29 that has been tweaked by him, or possibly a galaxy 9*9. Not sure which one I like more been looking at 929, 959, and the 979. Any and all input would be great.
I know a little bit about communication systems but not much. How difficult is it to tweak and tune one on your own? (Was only 2 semesters away from receiving Associates degree in electronics when I dropped out to become a driver instead. So I do know electronics but just a basic intro to them currently.)

I just bought a dual mosfet 979 from Doug at http://customcbradios.com/Galaxy-DX-979-AMSSB-Mobile-CB-Radio-P2275264.aspx and love it. I like the fact it is a small chassis radio with the large meter and LSB/USB. I also went with the recieve upgrade and yes the echo board. I think I like it better than my S9-175.
