Here's a link to state by state requirements.
You may need to activate the Adobe Toolbar and zoom to about 125% to make it large enough to read.

This is something you can proudly say to any DOT guy. "I'm self-certified"MNdriver said: ↑federal mandate to "self-certify" your medical to keep your license now.
The other option is to just claim that you are "exempt". but you still need to do it with the DMV.Click to expand...

While these requirements may constitute a major change in some states, not so in California. California for many years has required that a medical report, current within 2 years, be on file with the Department of Motor Vehicles (Sec. 12804.9(c) California Vehicle Code.RAGE 18 said: ↑So this is a requirement for 2012? my medical card expires in july of 12 n my license also on 12-12 so i get my MC then show to DMV in july right? then again in december when i renew correct? im in Cali help a brotha out with this i had no idea of this garbage coming into effect.Click to expand...
In order to comply with the new self-certification requirements California DMV will now require proof of a valid medical certificate upon renewal of a CDL.
So, here's the answer to your question. Yes, this year you will want to submit a copy of your new medical report to DMV prior to July (when your current med card expires). This is necessary to ensure that you remain in compliance with 12804.9(c) CVC.
When you go to renew your CDL in December you will already have a current medical on file. The plan is to have all of the states tie the medical certification to CDL renewal by January 2014.RAGE 18 Thanks this. -
It was supposed to be in effect but states were not ready for Jan 1, 2012 so they kicked it back two years. Once the states are all on-line you won't have to carry the med cert card now scheduled for 1/1/2014

And this will eventually mean you will no longer need to carry your long form too.

This is just another waste of time and money we'll have to pay for.CondoCruiser said: ↑They are in the middle of trying to implement this new way of thinking. Eventually doctors will be approved prior by the DOT and will have access to communicate with the state DOT via computers. Meanwhile the drivers are stuck doing the dirty work and have to show updates in person. I don't see why the doctors just can't send a copy of the long form to the state right now. He is capable of putting your DL# on the form.
Update medical, update license/hazmat, update twic. None of them are synchronized. Pain in the caboose.
That can be anyone. Anyone over 40, overweight is a higher risk. You don't see senior citizens that are bipolar or have ADD.

The governemment won't be happy till a physical cost 500.00.
Just look at cdl, hazmat and twic all use the same checks to determine if you can get them. hazmat and twic both use the same data base for fingerprint checks just double charge paid by those who have it. Then you have to get port cards if you go in more than a few times at each port another triple charge. Why do they do this cause you let them. I stopped at hazmat and I ask what the broker is paying extra for me using my endorsement? If they say nothing I tell them to keep their load.... Only when enough people get tired of being screwed will they stop as long as you take it they will dish it out. You all should write your senators and congress man and tell them you've had enough!! We need to DE-NUT the fmsca read the original intent of the interstate commerce clause and look at the hideous POS they toture us with now. -
You don't need to carry the long form as the way I read the regs.Hardlyevr said: ↑And this will eventually mean you will no longer need to carry your long form too.Click to expand...
it said you need to carrry your certificate which if you read further is the
Medical card. There is a picture of one at some place on their awful site.
I had to look for it cause the way it's written can lead to cunfusion unless you search it out good. -
That depends. I gotta buddy that wears hearing aids. He is required to carry his long form. So that DOT can know his hearing level.revelation1911 said: ↑You don't need to carry the long form as the way I read the regs.
