You're an Eagle Scout, aren't you? At the very least, you made it to Life Scout! I would be proud to have you in my Troop!

If you are going to bring a laptop, I highly recommend a laptop-friendly backpack to carry it in (I like Swiss Gear personally, which is readily availabke at Target and many Walmart's.), and get some of those mini locks to keep anything inside it safe. Also, invest in a bike lock to secure your backpack to something if you must walk away from it. This also keeps your wallet, cell phone, and anything else safer than just hiding it sonewhere.

I found a nice laptop specific backpack at Goodwill. It was a new in package Dell brand and ran me about $6.

its a nice comfort to yourself to put a lock on a laptop bag but you fail to realize that someone with a knife (which would be about 90% of drivers) can just cut the bag where the zipper is and take the laptop out.
-
that is true, you can cut the bag , but what about a loud percing alarm ,you can put in the bag, would that work
-
I'm thinking use a locked bag as a DECOY and just hide my good stuff...LOL
FloTheWaitress Thanks this. -
I had my laptop on my trainers truck as well as my truck when I was on the road. Half of the time it was just thrown on top of the bed in the wide open. I never once had a problem.

Man, oh man, are you guys/gals good!!! I am SO glad I found these forum posts/lists. . . . really has been quite a treat going through all this and getting what looks to be some GREAT information!!
My first post at this site. Just got hooked up with a trucking job/school for the first time as a major career change. Look forward to reading more and maybe bumping into some of you out on the road at some time or another.

just my 2 cents, but if you want to read books, get a kindle or other e-reader, you can load it up and it takes up less space than one normal book. Mine will even read to me in a robotic voice. A decent one is only about $100
