According to the swift brochure titled "We're on a journey to become a Best-in-Class carrier" it states "We offer some of the best freight, equipment, and HOME TIME in the industry. I know I ask a lot of questions but.... I took the weekend off for the holiday. A three day weekend at that taking holiday pay for Friday. Hubby put in over a week before that he wanted home on Friday. Friday came and went with promises they would get him home. Saturday comes and goes with him only getting a little closer. Today he finds out that he will get home on Monday. I know be thankful he gets home at all right? Problem is I work this week and the kids are in school. My 12 hour days and him being home is useless. Is it always like this? The equipment he has is really nice so that is true. The money has been okay. But this is the first attempt at coming home since solo. We are on week 5. Does this always happen to you all? He hasn't even been able to come home since he got his own truck. Just thought I would ask so I would know...

I was told by one company that since I live where I do I'd be by the house every other day or so. They were no lying... I did drive by the house all the time. They only failed to mention that I'd be by the house at 55mph (speed limit).

Now for seriousness. I have worked for folks that couldn't get me home on time if I paid them. I have also had times where I was home 12-24 hours early. Sometimes it depends on where you live in relation to the "common" routes the company runs. Some companies probably just flat out don't care.

I have never worked for Swift and my answers in regards to them would be hear say with no factual knowledge to back them. However, theyaren't they only ones you hear about not getting drivers home.

Not getting home on the day you requested is normal. So be prepared for that to happen with every hometime request.Tell your hubby to put in a request 2 weeks prior to hometime and bug his dispatcher daily. There are no guarentees getting home the day you requested so keep that in mind.I think just because you request a certain day to be home, companies don't HAVE TO wait till that piticular day, they can get the driver home a day or 2 earlier and then the driver goes back out after hometime as long as the driver agrees to that arangement. But no companies rather wait till the day you requested and they cant get u home so what youll get home sooner or later is how they look at it.

Yes it is sad but companies do not care about the drivers,it's all about them. They treat drivers like 3rd world citizens and will be like that as long as trucking exist. So you and your husband better start getting use to it.Or maybe he can find a local job.

So sorry you don't have your hubby home this weekend. I am very thankful to have Fred here. He stays out 6 weeks at a time and this is only the 3rd time he's requested home time. The first two times, he only stayed 2 1/2 days. This time he's taking 6 days because his truck is continuously broken down and he wants them to have plenty of time to fix it or give him a new one. I honestly believe that they resent drivers asking for home time, and he's always been 3 or 4 days overdue from the date he requested.

I guess I should be thankful that he has a good truck. I have been reading your posts and know what you have been saying about the truck. I am sorry his truck has been so bad. I am just disappointed. You know how it is. He is gone over a month and when he comes home you just want everything to be perfect for him. I cleaned the house from top to bottom making sure evrything was shiny. I cooked a huge ham dinner with all the fixins so that everything would be perfect. I had everything set up so he could be spoiled and pampered because I know he works hard. All this while working 12 hour days so that he could enjoy. Stinks. Now he will come home and all that he is going to get is an empty house and a wife that looks like a worn out rag. By the way guys, if your wife does all this for you when you come home flowers and a little candy are a nice touch because when the septic tank backs up and the tire goes flat on the car and the mower won't start and the kids are yelling.... well you get the idea. Sometimes it stinks being a truckers wife........

It is what it is. Similar to the military, it isn't for everyone.

I know how disappointing it is. I think we need a support group for all us new trucker wives. You know, somebody to talk to when something like this happens, or like when Fred didn't call me on the phone for over 24 hours, and I had him dead a 100 different ways before I broke down and called Atlanta to see if he was still communicating over the QC.
