Just thought I'd take the time to introduce myself as I've been lingering on other threads. I'll be starting RDTC, Roehl's driver training program tomorrow (along with a couple others who post on this forum). Got the ball rolling for school back in mid January. I was fortunate to get a referal from a Roehl driver who was picking up a load at the recycling plant I used to work at. I used to load Roehl trailers with used newspaper and sometimes baled cardboard. We used to have two Roehl trailers parked at our dock and usually the drivers would drop and hook (for newspaper). Got to learn all about getting the right weight without overloading. The Roehl drivers I talked to all gave good recommendations of the company so I ended up giving them a call. I'm not originally from Florida but am a native northerner (born in MA). Anyway looking forward to getting started.

I'm thinking this is a very smart move toward the CDL. I'm now just a couple weekends into a class at a private school. I've got about 6 to go. While I have learned a little bit about shifting, straight line backing and driving around a lot most of our time is spent standing in the lot watching other students. I'm not sure the school I'm attending is any worse than others. I'm thinking company programs may be more "one on one" behind the wheel. While the book stuff on rules and regs is somewhat important the best learning (for me) is doing. Bookstuff is easy for me and I can take all that on my own. Plus we spend 3 or 4 hours a weekend watching videos. I could do that at home.
From the brief description I see RDTC may be a much better route than a private school. I look forward to completing the CDL effort here and moving on to Roehl for some real driver education.
Congratualtions on what may have been a very smart move on your part to take the RDTC! -
I agree grusco. If I had to do over again, I would definately go thru the company course. Look at T-Lady's post, First day, and they already got to drive. we did,nt drive till the second week. good luck on finishing our cdl school
