Start with the antenna that tunes at 1.1, move it to the other side and see if it also tunes the same. If not, then use the coax from the known good side and move it over. If not then bring the mount over from the good side. At some point through elimination you should find what the issue is.

Did you say that you tried using the one antenna on both sides???? Meaning, you took the antenna that tuned and put it on the other side??? If not then you possibly have a bad antenna. Take an ohm meter and check the antenna. Put one lead on the bottom portion of the antenna and one lead on the top of the antenna. You should have continuity. If you show open then you have a bad antenna.
Also, are you using a seperate 50 ohm coax for individual antenna tuning???
Cophased harnesses use 75 ohm coax for each side while a single phased antenna uses 50 ohm coax. It might make a difference in the tuning.
Personally, I would not bother with it on a jeep. It is probly going to hurt your range since the antennas will be way too close together.
Heck I switched to a single on the big truck. Got sick of dealing with two antennas etc. The only thing I lost was a little to the side and back due to the signal being blocked by the trailer when close to the other radio. But farther away every thing is great. -
The antenna is working properly. It works perfectly in one mount and then terribly in another. I was using a 75ohm split coax I purchased from the local CB shop.
But i'm dropping the co-phased idea and will switch back to my original mount. Everything is back in working order and I'm getting an SWR of 1:1 . After a quick radio-check I'm getting feed-back from about ten miles away... So i'm happy. The co-phased antennas were more for vanity than practicality but I REALLY wanted them to work and am still a little irked I couldn't figure out the problem.
I appreciate the help, this forum is top-class, and if any of you guys see a jeep sportin' a 4' antenna, feel free to shout out to me to get the hell out of your way!

What kind of mount is it???? Kinda wondering if the antenna was not grounding out in the mount or something.
But anyway, I have two antennas on the truck but only one hooked up. LOL. -
I was using a PL-259 stud mounted directly to the bar. I made sure the inner stud was fully insulated from bar and the bottom half (the actual nut I guess) was connected to a ring connector that was wired to one of the bolts holding the roof rack to the top of the jeep. Exact same setup on both sides of the jeep. For some reason (I'm convinced now that it was a grounding problem) I could not get it to ground properly

This man knows what he is talking about, I will not necessarily go with the whip ant as I know you will do better with a good qualit 5/8 ant, I would suggest for your vehicle go to a commercial communication specialist and buy a Larsen 5/8 you will find it is just over $100.00 and will look much better and perform better on your vehicle than any truckstop co-phased system or for that matter any truckstop single ant. Use a good quality 50 ohm coax only a couple of feet longer than you need from the ant top radio and cut the whip for best match and you will not be dissapointed with either the looks or the performance.
