No out of pocket money.... pipe dream... you will need money to eat, to survive on. And Stevens only Loans you the money for the school, hotel, transportation. Harsh yes, reality yes.
If you are unemployed, check into retraining education from the state.
There is NO such thing as a free ride, or free training. -
Couple questions for Stevens trainers, I think a couple of you guys in here train.
1) How much time is trainee driving vs the trainer at first? Or are you gradually broken in over the 5 weeks. I got my license late last year but obviously gonna be a bit rusty.
2) Obviously conditions are cramped with 2 guys in a sleeper cab. If you bring a small suitcase is there enough room to store it in there comfortably? Im coming to Dallas via airplane rather than greyhound so I'll have a suitcase not a duffelbag. Dont wanna piss off the trainer carting around a suitcase in HIS truck. But its a real small one.
3) Is there hometime after your 5 weeks out and before your grad phase? To get sirius, laptop stuff like that from home? Trying to pack as light as possible now. -
c.r. england, swift, crst all train.of those 3,swift is probably best.i'm sure there are others.it will take research.

I am NOT a trainer, but Driving time will be right out of the box... depends on you...how many hours a day, but expect to drive 8 to 11. Just from my experience.
What ever you bring will be occupying the top bunk with you. A small suitcase is fine. But do pack light. Don't forget to bring some bedding, twin size sheets and blankets, and a pillow. I had a a large gym bag, and a overnight bag, along with my bed roll. No problems on the plane, or the truck.
Home time, the training is minimum 5 weeks out, then 1 week at the yard, then minimum 3 weeks... then return to the yard, get assigned your grad fleet truck, and get routed home to pick up your stuff... and if you do the training with out a break, they allow a full 7 days at home.
You may take a home break between phase 1 and 2.Dieselten77 and Rick_C Thank this. -
K thanks TLeaHeart (was just curious how the entire process worked) and where to store personal belongings etc. I figured suitcase was best coz that way you can lock it and its just easier when flying. (Southwest bags fly free

I would keep the size of the case to not much more than carry on size and not the size the NY mafia uses for bodies.

Look locally for state funded training to get your CDL at a community college. Then you have more options and are not behovan to the trucking company you drive for. May and Heyl have terminals in Florida, are both good companies but do not train.FLEMTP Thanks this.

About my post about my 2007 t2000. Problem is, I've been waiting a week and haven't touched the shop. It needed tires, a new bumper, new hood, clutch, tires, none of my lights inside worked, the truck stunk, it had trouble starting because the bezzle that the key switch was in was torn out and the wires were all fudged. It also had an APU problem and the truck had #### all over the dash pieces that was sticky and gross and I couldn't get to clean off with paper towels/windex. Thats why I was complaining about it. I had been out for 14 weeks, sat there for a week, and truck still had a LOT of work to do. All of my friends were gone already and I had friends that came in grad classes AFTER mine that were gone to. See why I was upset at my truck??
My trainer had a t2000 and I thought it was a great truck. His seemed to have more storage space then the t700 and it didn't have that def crud. -
That makes more sense. Sounded like you were complaining about the new one.
