heya guys,
it looks like im about to get a front end job on an old pete. shot kingpins. i do not have access to any fancy OTC press for pin removal. i have done several sets of kingpins on old pickups... but never on a semi.
dis-assembly... soak overnight with penetrant... beat them out the bottom... 8lb sledge...
thats my plan.
sensible?
please advise,
david

It often takes torch heat with a rosebud tip to the axle eye to get the pin moving. Using a very short driver on top of the pin also aids in getting it moving. Your plan sounds on target.

I have used a bottle jack under the pin and used the weight of the truck to push up then tap on the top of the axle. I keep a stand under the axle and work an inch or two at a time. also use an old pin out of a pick up to make up the distance once it up in the hole a bit.

I agree with both answers.
