Jeff hit a curb and retook it and past it last Tuesday. Said he was all set for Roehl, and Amish Lou
was set on going to Trans Am. He had to skip a week because his wife was sick. Jensi passed on his first time and I couldn't understand a word of what he said or where he was going! Walmart Dave and Jack were taking there test in a couple of days and Pitbull sounded like he was going to BTC. Heather was talking oil fields and heavy equipment and Josh and Timmy missed so much class they will graduate with there kids. -
Thought Jeff had a local dedicated gig set up with Schneider? ...my orientation is no joke... it it will be worth it in the end..this place is pretty awsome. Keep in touch....and remember. Go fast!!
-
Big Rob was going with Schneider down in Stubenville. I heard from a few trucker friends of mine that worked for Yellow and Holland that TMC is worth the money in the
end, top notch company. I past my yard maneuvers in 4 and 1/2 minutes, said it was a new record.... Shake n Bake!!! -
I just graduated heavy equipment and class A CDL from GLTDS the recruiters tell you one thing but the instructors say another like wtf? Noones on the same page. It was a ok experience for me. I passed my test in willard on the second try so off to Falcon I go!
-
Congradulations, I had to take mine down in Canton right behind Pitbull. I will be on my way to Maverick. See you on the road.
-
Thanks. Idk who "pitbull" is you mustve been in the class after me. Maverick I heard will send people home first few days cause your not "maverock material" just a heads up.
-
Not bad advice concerning expectations, but no one told me I would be a professional driver upon graduation from GLTDS and I didn't expect to be.
I heard an instructor mention that you aren't a truck driver (in his opinion),until you have driven at least a year under different weather and road conditions. He's right. Most of the experience will come with the first truck driving job you get.
Getting some BTW experience on the road in different scenarios, city/country/highways, 2 weeks of classroom, and a bunch of time learning maneuvers in the yard all add up to being able to pass the test for your CDL.
Getting that time behind a standard transmission truck on the road is valuable also. Makes taking the test in that automatic one less thing to worry about. -
Yes, had a great time and learned as much as could be expected in 4 weeks. Classmates were great, met some good people and had a blast.
After going to the next level (company training), what I learned at GLTDSwas right in line with company training (aside from company-specific training). GLTDS had me well prepared for it.
I WILL say that if you haven't been in the military, or haven't been around old school guys that like who push you, or if you're a bit .. whimpy (?), it may not be the place for you.
If you can deal with that, you'll learn a lot and have a blast. Lots of combined experience with those instructors.
EDIT: oops, didn't know this was an ancient thread that was bumped, lol.Last edited: Sep 9, 2012
