I'd have left it in their dumpster, it was part of their load...as soon as its off the trailer its not your problem....just scoot and go.

    Not my problem.

I had a similar problem when I did a shopping cart run. A ton of cardboard and 2X4's. I would up throwing the cardboard in a dumpster and a local driver called his wife to come and get the 2X4's for some project he was working on.

Our delivery invoices state in capital letter at the bottom: CONSIGNEE RESPONSIBLE FOR CLEANING OF TRAILERS. If they don't we bill a flat $175 fee for driver clean-out, whether it takes 2 minutes or 2 days, we bill a flat rate. I've had people yell, scream, ##### that it isn't their job. One guy told me to get the F off his property when I told him clean out the trailer. I did, right after I swept 20 lbs of dunnage out the back of the trailer in front of his only loading dock and closed the doors. He called the broker cussing up a storm, the broker called my company and raised hell. My boss called me, I explained everything to him. He called the broker back and told him we were adding a $175.00 driver clean-out fee to the delivery and explained the reason why. Never been back to that place since, but he did pay the $175

Hey, just because I'm new to driving a truck doesn't also mean that I was born yesterday :D

I had a temp job working in a fab shop. We had containers come in from Sweden every week, and we had to sweep them out after we unloaded them - or pay a $250 'fine' to the shipper. :)

After reading these post, I will be better prepared on a course of action if it ever happens to me again.
Some of the post were funny and I appreciate the laughs. Also, the post are a good reminder not to mess with the truck driver. :biggrin_2559:

What I would have done was call my company and if my dispatcher said find a place to dump it,I would have said to him, nope you find me a place and ask for some compensation when I do clean the trl out.Drivers should not have to worry about what to do with the garbage left behind because the receiver is too lazy to clean up their mess..Let your company worry about it or just don't pick up the next load.` The little pay we receive isn't worth worrying more then we have to and certainly is'nt worth doing more then we have to.Your dispatcher is'nt greatful for anything the drivers do anyway.
