Im a resident of AK. I own home here. I will work in lower 48 states OTR but my home is ALASKA. When time off I will either fly up to AK or stay with family in CA or AZ.
Since Ive had my CDL A with all indorsments, why would I have to change my DL to the state where the terminal or school is?
I called Marten for example and they said I'd need to surrender my AK CDL in order to work for them. Thats BS. I havent spoke to many others yet but has anyone had this happen?
If you live in a different state than where your school or terminal is have you had to get a CDL for that state or for your residental state?
    Im confused :biggrin_25526:

no you should not have to....

Ask them for the regulation that requires it.

Or just check the box on them for "unacceptable" work conditions and move on.

    Did that more than once.

Not sure why they are telling you that???? I got my CDL in MO, but am a VA resident. I had to switch mine to my home state within 30 days.

Thanks fallinangel, MNdriver & RebelChick :)
Yea, I am not going to give up my residence here and my Alaskan status. I enjoy my hunting time, and will be danged if I have to pay a non-resident tag!
After discussing this with DOT here in AK they said that unless it is a state regulation where the company is located there shouldnt be a problem. Fed regulation controls my CDL.
