I have a new Cobra digital radio that I have had clipped and tuned. Everyone says I blow them away but I cant receive very far out. I have changed coax's changed antenna's (currently running a 5' firestick). Anyone got any ideas?

because when you got clipped they took the limiter out which means you have a signal that is going all over the radio waves. It's signal is actually larger than the frequency you are supposed to be on.

    As such....

The idjet that just got inside your radio pretty much junked it out for you.

I fell for the same line 20 years ago and had something similar done to my radio too.

    Worst $20 I ever spent.

Your radio being clipped has nothing to do with your recieve. While it is looked down upon and will cause you to sometimes bleed on adjacent channels it is still sadly a very common practice to clip and turn up the modulation. Find a shop with a signal generator and have the recieve tuned and the radio aligned. it sounds like some hack just twisted the mod pot and clipped the limiter. turn your mic gain down to 25% and go up from there to tone it down a bit and quit "blowing them away"

R&R Communications did a receive Mod on my 29lx which is basically like adding a Pre-Amp to the radio...It brings in weak stations real good...Only draw back on the 29lx doing this, is unless you add a switch somewhere to turn off the receive mod, stations that are real close to you will sound garbled...Like someone within a few car lengths of you....

On the Cobra 29 Classic or any of the other 29's that has the channel 19/9 switch, they can use that switch as a ON/OFF switch for the Mod, but not on the 29lx because it uses a button for the channel 19/9 which also is a last channel recall button.

The only way you can tell how well it is working is to put it on a good generator and measure the noise floor .....

I was stationed at Ft Knox back in the 60's you may know the places in these photos ...
