Day 1
Spirits are high. I have plenty of supplies and am confident rescue will come soon.
Day 2
Still no rescue. Natives seem friendly enough.
Day 3
Supplies running low. Speared a baby alligator and tried to cook it. Just melted and made a lot of black smoke. Was left with inedible bundle of wire.
Day 4
I had a companion with me. Lost him in a Hutu uprising. It's ok. I found a metal box. Named it Cobra. Voices come out of it. I talk to them. Sometimes they answer. Think I may be losing my mind.
Day 5?
I think I may need to build a shelter. Help is not coming. Supplies very low. I'm finding I am becoming able to communicate with the natives in their own tongue. I see rescue vehicles all around me and none are able to help. Don't know how much longer i can last.....

You should have planned your breakdown better. Laredo can be less than hospitable with an operational truck. Good luck. I may be down there Saturday. If I see a Prostar with a hut next to it I'll toss out some rescue supplies.

I'd say to seek your fortunes south of the border, all you need to know in Spanish is this:
"Soy chofer de camión Americano. ¿Quién quiere mi dinero?"

But seriously, what happened to your truck?scottied67 Thanks this. -
All jokes aside I got here 2am on saturday. Output shaft on the steering gearbox is leaking. Go to Rotex at 8am. They say can't get me in come back monday. I go monday and they say they don't have time come back tuesday. I go back tuesday and they finally look at it and send the repair request to navistar. No reply, come back wednesday. I go back today and they say got request back, part ordered, it will be in tomorrow. So just maybe I'll get back on the road tomorrow. I'm gonna have to file a change of address card to put me at the flying joke I've been here so long.
scottied67 Thanks this. -

5 days for a $10 seal that takes about an hour to install? Or are they wanting to replace the whole steering box?
scottied67 Thanks this. -
Sounds like it would have been easier to buy the seal and put it yourself?
But there could be other problems to causing the leak, I haven't had vehicle with a warranty in so long what does it look like?scottied67 Thanks this. -
Unless it is a severe enough problem to render the truck unsafe or undriveable, I let it ride until I get home. If its going to be down for a week, I want that week to be at home!
scottied67 Thanks this. -
Horror stories of OTR.
