    Guys,
I want your opinion as truck drivers...what makes you happy and stay with a company longer? I know PAY is the number one thing...and I pay 20% of each load minus fuel and tolls. What else do you think I can do to improve my drivers experience with the company? What would make you happy?

I must not be reading this right.

    You keep 80%
Driver gets 20% but has to pay for fuel and tolls out of the 20%?

How do they not owe you money for each load?

no sir...I pay for tolls and gas...only thing the driver has to do is just drive and deliver on time and I pay him 20% of whatever paid to me.

That's your problem, sounds way to low on pay to me.

Maybe the OP needs to put it down on paper to see that it is good for him but seems to suck for the driver. Or maybe he's already figured that out and wondering why drivers aren't lining up outside his door.

    1. What would you charge to your customer for a load of ??? going to a city maybe 1000 miles away?
    2. Is the driver driving your truck/trailer, their truck and your trailer, or their truck and trailer (all you are doing is putting the freight and the driver together)?
    3. Are you taking care of insurance, permits and all the legal stuff as part of your overhead (included in the money you keep for the job)?
    4. You didn't say if you were providing this service as an expeditor or hotshot or if this is simply "it gets there when it gets there" freight?
    5. It doesn't sound very lucrative from a driver's perspective if you are already skimming the cost of fuel and tolls from the revenue you are splitting 80/20.
    Just my opinion....

Give them a performance bonus from time to time, lets them know they're appreciated.

Up your pay sale a bit, your a little low.

24% is the normal,if someone runs hard give them more.

    Happy drivers pay for themselves.

The owners I'm aware of pay 40% to the truck AND cover fuel, etc... The drivers take 60% and the fsc if they have to pay for it.

    RickG Thanks this.

That's pretty much the industry standard . 60/40 split with whoever pays for the fuel getting 60% of the gross plus 100% of the FSC

    Rick_C and TennTrucker Thank this.
