That can be a consideration. When I know that I am going around a toll road, I look at the time, but can often go around without much of an impact on my logbook. I don't usually run that hard any more, so it usually isn't much of a factor to me. Avoiding high tolls is more a matter of principle with me. There are times when I cannot go around them to get to my destination. For instance, if I go to Long Island I have little choice but to pay their extortion fees.

I have gone around toll roads and went accross them and some of them I know the way to save some money and some times you're screwed.
I always get the broker to add some to the rates for tolls. They won't unless you ask. The best money saving one i found was going 287 around NYC accross the tampon zee adds about 17 miles but saves about 40 dollars counting fuel it still saves 32 dollars and I like the ride better. I tried deducting toll miles from ifta and it was more bother than it's worth.
I'll just wait for the young folks to seize our politicians like the french did in 1792 and I'll apply for the job to run the head removal device.

I was thinking each of the two longer sections on 44 were $16.25 each. The last couple of years I have went through OKC on 35 to 40 to avoid the coin tolls around the city. Unless those have changed.

Toll roads have gotten out of control. The roads typically are NOT better & you still owe the state(s) IFTA along with paying to have the state on your IRP.

Interesting numbers posted on Pikepass site. Fourth QTR 2011 bondholders report.

Well I only run IL, IN and OH toll roads regularly. IL there is just no way around it if you want to get threw there in good time (or tack on 60 extra miles running over to 39 but you still pay the toll at I80 booth and up in Rockford)

IL lets you deduct toll route miles from your IFTA, IN and OH do not count them towards your fuel credit at all. And to be honest, ever since the Aussie/Spanish took over the IN toll road, it has gotten rougher and in worse physical shape than most county roads....but I'll still pay the $30 over going thru Amishland on US20

There are plenty of ways around tolls in IL! it just depends on how time sensitive you are and what part of the day..and about that indiana, take 94E to US20 E to US2 E to US20 E around S. Bend and Elkhart, if you don't like the rest of the way shoot up after elkhart to the turnpike, saves you $15, although the rest of the way is sweet especially at night and early early mornings. There are many ways to avoid tolls in ohio.. just watch out for OHDot

Better see how many miles it costs you and time. Then compare to the tolls and usually you save money overall.

I know, I've logged easily 200,000 miles on that exact same route. I live just south of Michigan City. To be honest, I've ran the turnpike to Toledo, the route you stated and even taken US6 across Indiana (lots of Us6 when I was hauling for Walmart in Garrett, IN. The Indiana toll road is still the fastest, and when you have a truck with a big motor that like to guzzle fuel, it is also more cost effective.
