We have cab coolers here a long. Time now, there are 2 types, water cooled and compressors, the water coolers are cheaper at approx 1000 dollars and are ok as long as you keep the water tank out of direct sunlight because when the water gets hot they lose effectiveness , the compressors on the other hand are more expensive at 2500 dollars approx, they work really well, at 95 degrees I have mine on setting 3 out of 8 settings.
You can order them to fit the sunroof so there's no cutting or you can get ones to fit the back of the cab so you only have to drill small holes in the cab. I know viesa have an office in Canada but the best ones are waeco, they generally have a 2 year warranty are are purpose built for trucks!
Other advantages are no diesel burnt to run them , no noise, no vibrations, much cheaper to buy than an apu .. They run soley on batteries and will run for over 20 hours without need to start the truck, also if the batteries run low it cuts off so it won't run your batteries down completely . I hope this helps cos I know these companies sell these products in the US

If I remember to do so, then yes!
Been trying to find the installation instructions for the Dometic Commercial with no luck. Thought I would get a head start, but oh well.
Can find them for most other units, just not the commercial one. Probably near the same but will wait and see.

Scania Man,
A real ac unit is cheaper, and will provide 13,500BTU of cooling capacity mate!
I have seen the water ones, but they do not compare to an actual ac unit when outside temps are over 120f mate.
I have the generator, so may as well put it to good use huh?

Ahh yeah, what I call compressor unit is in fact a proper AC unit, sorry for the confusion, these manufacturers make them especially for Trucks,
-
And I Agee with u about water coolers , they are limited in what they can do
-
And the price reflects that mate!

There are two that are made for the more commercial/heavy duty markets here. The Coleman Roughneck and the Dometic Commercial. Both with 2yr warranties.
A 13,500BTU ac unit in a Columbia will just about freeze me out IMHO, but the smaller 9200BTU ones will not have a warranty when I put it on the truck!
Dometic and Coleman dealers are all around here too, so that will make any issues get resolved sooner (In theory).

Everytime I called, Pat was never there... with that said, when I called them, they quoted me a price of $1000 for a commercial Dometic rooftop plus tax !!!
Can you say way over priced ? To compound matters, that price was just for the AC unit... the lower control unit was additional. I'm sure they do great work, but they deal with high end clients where money is not an option. So now your looking at $1100 plus install of ??? It wouldn't surprise me if that was a additional $500.
For the DIY types like myself, shop around and be patient.
I bought a unit from a small RV place here at home @ $926 for a complete unit, including tax and shipping.
Side note; Dometic builds to order with the commercial rooftop unit. It takes about 3 weeks to get it.... mine arrived today.
