How the hell do u stay healthy?

One of the main reasons I went into trucking was to get health insurance, and one of the main reasons I quit so early was that my wife got a job with health insurance and the irony of ruining my health driving to get health insurance was not lost on me. I recently read that the average life expectancy of a OTR truck driver is 61. Now when you are 22 maybe that seems quite old, but when you are 60, it seems totally unacceptable. One look at the drivers at any truck stop and I am inclined to believe that statistic. It is quite understandable though, after you have been driving for 11 hours and waiting around at a shipper for 3 hours how many of you want to cook your own food, and jog around the truck stop -- throw in Cigarette smoking to keep your self awake or whatever while driving and you have a real problem. I defenitely did not seem myself eating and exercising properly if I had continue to do trucking. Those truck stops are so Isolated from grocery stores that even if you wanted to eat properly it would be really hard. You all take care of yourselfs, you hear?

 

Now this is a true fact,never get something to eat or go grocery shopping when you're hungry.You'll eat awhole lot more or spend more then you needed to..I won't say what I got at Hardees but it cost$11.98 and tossed half of it

 

Guys, some of the problem is NOT the product you're eating, rather, what is now going INTO making that product.

Speaking of french fries... notice how McD's FF's never decay? lol

 

But those fries are soooooo good. They're my biggest guilty pleasure lmao.

I stopped on my way back from Philly, in the truck, pulled into a parking lot next to a Sonic and ordered the biggest darn serving I could get.

Lasted me all the way back to the yard!

 

me? next to 2 packs of cigs and lots of coffee: tuna, sardines, mix of nuts, fruit, dry fruit... and once in awhile, truck stop food.
also, even though i rarely do it and should: if you are sitting at truck stop for days or even few hours, get out,walk around,explore.

 

how the hell do you afford to eat at the buffet or restaurant every day. I eat in my truck all the time now.

It costs me about $125-130 for food for the month.

 

i was spending $400-$500 a month for food/drinks on the road and i was still rolling in money. I've spent the last 3 weeks catching up on my spread sheet i keep for all my money going in and out (i stopped doing it when i went OTR i didnt have time, i just finally went threw 1.5 yrs worth of bills and recipts to catch it up), and have spent literally $400 - $500 every week since i started OTR, but i have also taken home $4000 - $6000 a month (take home) too so i never even noticed until now that im doing all my numbers, if i had cooked in the truck like you i woulda saved a TON of money
