I'm going to apply with the bulk division soon as a new CDL holder. I would like to ask some questions of a current bulk driver. If any bulk driver would like to respond, please PM me.
Any Schneider Bulk Drivers?

I'm in their bulk division. I'm based out of their Reserve, LA terminal. What would you like to know? I try and look at the forum here as often as I can so I'll respond to your questions as soon as possible. Cheers!
JR80, Doublecutter and mrvolts Thank this. -
Onetime, thanks for the response. I was thinking that no bulk drivers were looking at the Schneider threads.
I live about 30 miles from the Reserve terminal, so if I'm hired I guess I would work out of that terminal also. I start CDL school this Thursday in a 6 week course. I figure tanker would be a good way to go right off the bat, with all the chemical plants there are in the NOLA/ Baton Rouge area. I always see a lot of tankers on I-10 and I-12 in this area. And there are always plenty of help wanted ads in the newspaper and recently even on the radio.
Here are some questions:
-What is the difference between OTR and Regional bulk?
-What is your running area mostly? Is it really all 48? Canada?
- I read these other threads about Workflow. Is bulk on workflow? How is the dispatching in the bulk division?
- How often do you have to wear the full chemical suit?
-What is a good guess of average of miles per week?
Thanks in advance for your help. I'd appreciate any other info that you think may be important.mrvolts Thanks this. -
I'll answer them in the order that you asked them,
I'm not sure that there is a regional division anymore. I had asked a while back if I could go regional and they basically told me that they were weeding it out.
I personally run all over the U.S. I have gone to Canada a few times within the past few years for them but it rearely comes up. Since you would be based out of Reserve (like myself) I would assume that you would be running similar lanes that I do. I usually get loaded or pick up a pre-loaded tank in Reserve and deliver it somewhere in the midwest (Oaklahoma) or in the dreaded northeast.
As far as Workflow goes, I haven't seen it used in the bulk division yet. I've heard nothing but horror stories from the guys in the van division that are being pushed into it. I hope it never makes it's way to our neck of the woods.
I've only had to wear my "slicker suit" 3 or 4 times within the past 3 years or so. It rarely happens.
I usually get about 2,000 miles per week but that can vary upon where they send you and if you are pulling a compartment trailer which would require multiple stops. Also keep in mind that you are paid for every stop that you make. You get paid to load AND to unload whether you are dragging hoses or not. The money adds up much faster when you calculate your stop-off pay with your mileage pay.
Hope some of this helps you out in making your decision to work here or not. If you need any other info just post it up here and I'll answer as soon as I can.
Best of luck!Doublecutter, chirp63 and mrvolts Thank this. -

Doublecutter, where will you be attending school?,
-
mrvolts, I am going to South Central Louisiana Technical College down in Thibodaux. 6 week class, M-F, 7AM-3PM. 10 students per class, 4 trucks, and about $1100 for tuition, physical, drug test, CDL fees, etc. About an hour drive for me (live in Metairie). They are listed as an approved school on Schneider's website. And they are also approved by Werner. And I called Swift and KLLM and they told me that they would also accept the school.
What school did you attend?
You said that you have orientation in Dallas. I called recruiter and he told me orientation in either W. Memphis or Atlanta. Tanker training in Reserve or Dallas. But, I haven't officially applied yet, but that's what he told me.
Where are they sending you for tanker training?Last edited: Apr 23, 2012

Onetime, thanks for your info. Do you park your PMV at the Reserve terminal?
Might have more questions in the future. When I go to apply, I will use use your name if it means some extra dollars for you. Let me know. -
I park over at the Saraland, AL tankwash. I am technically a "Reserve" driver but I live east of there near the panhandle of FL.
