Just want to put this out there This company is one of the best companies you can look in to working for the recruiters may take a while to get you to orientation but lets face it it's your living ok I would rather take a extra week than waste a week and be sent home with no job . They do there research and make sure you are a good fit if it was up to me wait that extra time and stay calm you will get that call and be on your way and also if you want to hear a bunch of bs go look at another company because this one is not for you . Just remember they will never lie to you I can speak from experience trust me

Hey. I got the invite from Maverick, and I am considering the Glass division. Any big downside to Glass? Is it more or less physically demanding? Do the extra .cpm cover extra downtime? I got several options, but want to make the best choice. Home time is not a big issue for me.

Plus to glass is CPM, everything else is a minus.
You are required to stay out a minimum of two weeks at a time. You drive the oldest trucks in the fleet pulling the oldest trailers. It's the most physically demanding work Maverick has. You may have to go to Canada from time to time.
The wait time for loading isn't always that bad. I would say 50% of the time I get a preloaded trailer. Live loads can take several hours and you are hustling the whole time. Miles have been real good for the past month and should stay that way through the summer.
You will also haul all the other commodities such as steel bar, steel coils, plywood, wheeled vehicles and who knows what.
I just came through Asheville this morning on 40 good climb up Black Mountain.
If you want to stay out and run more, Maverick also has a over the road division. (not sure what they call it) They stay out for weeks or months at a time. -
Thank you Seawheeler. I have a couple of weeks to figure which way to jump. Not pleased to hear the Glass runs the oldest equipment. Looks like the toughest part is tarping from a ladder. How old is average for a Glass driver. It may be a younger Man's game.

Sea wheeler is the miles starting to pick up . And do they keep you loaded when there's no glass to run.

In reference to "glass hauling being a young mans game"...
I know a few glass haulers that are 60+ years old...but they've been at it for 40 years and have learned to work smarter not harder.
My uncle (used to drive) is nearly 60 (maybe 58 or so) and he loads glass all day for another company...that said, its best to be in pretty good shape regardless of age due to the climbing, lifting, etc.
What I'm saying is this...it is hard work, but its more time consuming than than tiring.
EDITED TO ADD: I am not a current glass driver, but I was for a while...and I have several members of my family and some friends who are still hauling glass, so I'm not completely out of the loop...and yes, the glass miles should be picking up a bit for Maverick any time now if they haven't already.Hightower Thanks this. -
OK, so I submitted my application today. Finish CDL school in about 3 weeks, chucking my part time school bus driving job and trashing my real estate broker license. I have a job offer with Roehl but Maverick keeps popping up. Talked to Adam the recruiter today. Told him I'm 63, pretty healthy and worried that glass is a young man's game. But I'm in school with several young-ins' and I have 10 times the mental attitude they do. I'm a real positive guy looking for a real positive company. Can't seem to get away from Maverick. Whew! Anxious, Scared...you bet! I want this to happen!
ttownrunner Thanks this. -
Glass division should have all the old tractors gone by mid-summer they are getting 350 new trucks in just for the glass division.
