I called about a load today off Dat B'ham- chattanooga paid 400.
The broker is in Bham also I thought I remember address and number of broker who had supoosedly not paid carriers before under a different name.
The shipper told me they wound have to pay carriers.
I asked this guy on phone about getting paid and prior company.
He mumbled something about hearing "backroom talk" and that person writing check was on vacation.
I told him I'd need a check the day of load or I couldn''t fool with them as I suspected they was a chamelon broker.
I didn't get load but I didn't expose myself either.
Should I done this?

that's an ok paying load for the area to get you to a better market, we find some excellent loads out of chattanooga sometimes. Don't risk it with a risky broker, even though they have a bond. it's not worth the hassle of chasing after your payment from bond or shipper. you've done what I would do, look else where. if you want to deadhead a couple of hrs north.. I know a shipper that usually has good loads there, 5-8k lbs for dry-van or reefer pays higher than average. message me if you'd like their info.

You also have to remember that Revelation is running a hot-shot setup, so $400 for a short trip is not too cheap in my opinion.
Glad you called him out on the BS tho, I hate brokers like that. I ran into a similar situation yesterday and come to find out that the Landstar agent I got my load through had gotten it from another brokerage. Needless to say, customer service at Jacksonville was not very happy to hear that !!!
