Were a canadian company, and we run 50-51 ft tridem steps. (three fixed axles, 12 ft spread)
I sent a driver to california that was 35000 on his trailer. I told him not to worry, as its looked at like a 10' spread, and hes allowed 40,000 in most states.
Everyone thinks im wrong, can any of you settle this for me?

Kingpin to rear axle setting might get him caught..
    What is that spacing?

Are you sure? California is 40' kingpin to center of rear axle. Weight wise is no problem.

12' spread you are allowed 45,000 in the US. With 10' spread you are allowed 43,500 lbs. 8' = 42,000.

The bridge formula states 45,000 lbs, 3 axles, 12 foot spread.

If you can satisfy the 40' CA requirement, you are good to go.

On state highways there are in some states. If he was delivering off the interstate I wouldn't worry about it.

As stated, just make sure you are under 40' from kingpin to axle. Everything else will be fine

I woulld be surprised if a three axle 51' trailer would meet the 40' kingpin to the center of rear axle. Too bad you don't have a 48' trailer, then you have nothing to worry about in Cali.

Well it might. Depends on how deep the setting is for the kingpin and what is the position they have the axles under the deck..

But more than likely it won't meet the 40' rule.
