Anyone make food at home then use a food saver to keep it fresh?
I used to have meals from home and would seal them in a food saver bag, freeze then take it with me and warm it up in the truck microwave. -
Fresh sliced fruit on wooden skewers is a favorite on my truck, especially with a little vanilla cream cheese to dip them in.

is it better to buy stuff from grocery stores rather than buying stuff at a restuarant?

Yes James, most definitely! You'll save lots of money, eat healthier, and if you need ideas, just ask. The community is here to help!

100 times better, I can say that I do love my food but a salad bar and a bag of cooked shrimp is far better and half the price of a set down food joint.

i do that all the time. when hubby leaves me at home, im always doing vacum seal meals. its easy to add an extra portion or two to what i am already cooking and then vacum seal and freeze. its also nice for when im out there with him. i can just pop it into the nuker and have a hot meal for him when there is no time for us to sit and have our regular meal break.

way way better to fix your own. first is the cost. by the time you get done with a truckstop meal you will have paid about $15 by the time you add drink tax and tip. twice a day ($30) 7 days a week.... $210. buy your own groceries and do it yourself to the tune of $75 a week and thats eating well.
2) you can cook in your truck and you dont have to get out in ugly weather.
3) you can eat more than just cheese and crackers or a bologna sandwich when you have a very long wait at a shipper or receiver.
4) you will be getting a meal that is not subject to someone elses whims as to how it should taste or look.
5) you will know that no one has spat in or done something even uglier to your food just because they are in a bad mood.
yes i would say that buying and fixing your own is alot better! -
I just bought a new cook book for crock pot meals at the Flying J today. I'll be posting recipies in the Recipies group soon.

After being so far out in the boonies that it is actually easier to cook at home than get dressed and take long drive to go out to eat, I have found that I generally prefer my own cooking anyways. I was already prepared (mentally) to do my cooking in the truck, but washing up had me vexed.
So I have to ask the most experienced folks...
How do you clean up your kitchen-on-the-go?
Do you take a tub in with you when you shower?
Or is a rest area a better place to clean up?
As things stand now, and without experienced input, I am assuming that I will be filling up a small tub with hot water from a 12v kettle and washing up in the truck.
I would love to hear what folks do.
