LoL well you can always go Ultra-Shift. AKA the automatic. It's a unique experience in the big truck world. Especially backing heh.

Unique? Nothing unique about auto shift anymore. They have been around for quite some time now. I drove one for USX in 2003. I prefer standard transmissions myself, love 13 speeds.

Not sure why you find it difficult to back an automatic though :biggrin_2556:

    They're awfully lurchy.

Hmm, never had a problem with mine. Not sure what kind of changes they made to that tranny since the last time I drove one though.

Maybe it's just the automatics they had at my school. Each one seemed to lurch when trying to back with them. I only used them every-so-often there, so I suppose I could be speaking out my youknowwhat. But I'm pretty sure that's what Papa Lion was alluding to.

One thing to consider is the seasonal nature of freight. Being so big Schneider is somewhat immune, but I would imagine it is easier to get good miles with a box during the spring, summer and fall when the reefers are running strong.
