How often do you need a 40 ft. trailer? Would a shorter trailer, say 32 to 36 limit the loads you can haul? Mostly thinking of the extra weight of the longer trailer. Most of the freight I see on goosenecks is no longer then 30-32 ft. My previous was with a 32 ft. trailer and cant remember losing many loads due to length, but that was in the 80's and maybe freight has changed since then.
Thanks
goosneck length?

Yep I agree, my loads dont often go over 30'. Usually 30' would be enough.

I hual alot of building material witch is light weight but normally long. So the 40fter is almost always full.
Ole Timer Thanks this. -
I bought a 40' x 102 PJ trailer. I guess better safe then sorry.
12,000 # axles with air ride and air lift front axle. Pulling with Dodge 5500.
registered for 44,000. Shouldnt have to turn down any load with this combination.Ole Timer Thanks this. -
Alright, this might be a dumb question, but when you say 'air lift front axle', is that a sort of 'tag' axle that you can lift when you don't have any weight on?
Also, what kind of fuel mileage are you getting with that setup (loaded/empty)? I'm still debating on going with a 3500 or something larger..Ole Timer Thanks this.
