Swift Fender Bender and Effect on DAC/MVR/Future Employment

    Fred had a boo boo yesterday. :biggrin_25513:
    A quick light change caused him to have to stop pretty quick and put him a couple of feet over the white line. He wasn't blocking the intersection or anything, but he decided he should probably back up. So he did. (wrong decision) The light turned green and he pulled out. About a mile later, a lady in a car flagged him down and got him to pull over. She said that when he backed up, his DOT bar hit her bumper and scratched it. She never honked the horn or anything. Which makes me suspicious of her story, but Fred called claims and reported it. The police were not involved.

    I'm guessing that Swift will put it on his DAC, but his MVR will be unaffected. Is that right? How badly will this affect his opportunities with future employers? Anyone know how long it will stay on the DAC? Swift also tells him that there is a 3 -5 day mandatory suspension for an accident and that he will have to give up his truck whenever they route him back to Atlanta.

    Swift will most likely report the incident and blow it out of proportion when explaining to DAC. Word of advice to Fred never ever back up in traffic. And never back up without G.O.A.L. Now the MVR is different its probably isn't a DOT reportable accident because no vehicles were towed or ppl were takin to the hospital. But if he was ticketed it will be on his MVR jus not DOT reportable. The other thing to worry is the weight of the conviction. He should've said she was following to closely and hit him when he stopped at the light. It would've been up to officer to figure out who was telling the truth.

    I knocked down a light pole while avoiding being hit by another truck in a private yard, On the whole swift seemed indifferent about it as long as I did the correct reporting. While training My rear left trl wheel hit the back end of a small Honda. Training people seemed happy I was able to do the correct reporting. On that one I was given a verbal and had to do some kind of backing class. lasted all of 30 minutes. I would not worry as long as your hubby does what he is suppost to do he should not be off the road at all.

    There are two Non dot reportable incidents on my dac report, but they will drop off soon enough.

    It takes a man of character to tell the truth. I am glad he did what he did and he will probably come out better in the end for being honest.

    I backed into a car hauler that was hanging into my spot at the J in Laredo in my first 6 months with England 6 years ago. I flattened the back of a brand new Hummer H2. Never had a problem getting a job. Of course, never gotten so much as a ticket in the years after that.

    watched a guy at Kraft this week drive over one of those 8" concrete filled concrete anchored posts that protect things.

    There are a LOT of those posts turned on their side there.

    MVR = 3 years

    DAC = 7 years

    I guess time is measured by the observer.

    I cannot begin to explain how refreshing this kind of behavior is to me in this time of "it's all about me". Wilma, tell that man of yours he done good and I, for one of probably many, am proud of him and proud to work for a company that has that kind of person driving their trucks.

    PS: Tell him I said the two most hazardous things we do in a truck are change lanes and back up. Stay out of the right lane in city traffic (screw the super truckers who feel the need for speed and believe they own the road) and never back up unless it's safe to get out and look.
