387 battery box door latch

    Most 387's have faulty latches on the battery box and tool box that's located between the steps that go into the truck.

    Anyone ever come up with a fix for these other than strapping a bungee across to keep it closed?

    I can't even find a replacement latch.

    I have yet to see any cheap fixes ...

    Any Pete dealer should have latches they aren't cheap but pretty common problem .....
    The replacement ones are refined a bit and shouldn't fail nearly as much

    If you replace it also buy a can of white lithium grease,spray the moving parts. Probably will never have to replace again.

    Called Peterbilt and they wanted $95 per latch. You've go to be kidding me!

    I'll be taking one off and heading to a few places to see if I can find anything close.

    Actually, the catch wears down and the latch doesn't stay closed any longer. Don't think grease would help, but thanks for the advice.

    Previous owner put larger latches on mine, looks like they came from a saddle box or something, im sure you could find them on ebay. I'll have a look and if i remember ill take a pic tomorrow in the daylight and post.

    Can't get photos to load from my iPhone?? Don't have the cable to shoot them over to my laptop. I'll try to find a solution tomorrow.
