Sometimes you get the always amusing "retarded redneck yelling N-word" vs. "cool sounding black guy telling him how ignorant he is". Or the wise guy announcing the coop is open when he knows it isn't but is just trying to annoy everyone.
No, CB, For 6 years, What have I missed?

Have my CB on all the time. Not worried about Bears can't go the speed limit in this co.truck
Not worried a bout the coupes Got my paper work right, weight right and log book right
Still need it for road closures and at shippers and customers.
platinum Thanks this. -
It's soooo quiet on the CB any more. With satellite radio, ipods, cell phones, no one wants to talk.
Mine is always on. Had a driver warn of a bear with a capture in a one lane construction zone over the crest of a hill. The driver sounded genuinely suprised when I thanked him.VisionLogistics and Wargames Thank this. -
Seems to be a trend of one or two users around here.
Besides, some shippers and receivers still use the CB to direct trucks to doors / docks, etc. so running without one is not an option, IMO.Wargames Thanks this. -
i have found that you will find more intelligent conversations at night while your running with a few guys who are talking to stay alert. now during the day, i will have my squelch cranked up so you gotta be really close to me before i will hear you.

And they never will.
Both of my trainers had CBs, and neither of them ever turned them on until after we were stopped in a backup. The first didn't even know how to tune his radio properly, so nobody could hear anything he said (very deep voice, thick carolina accent, and a jaw full of tobacco) and could barely make me out through the static and squeal.
I have to drop my voice and talk slow or nobody will give me the time of day since because of my age its assumed I'm the "new breed".
I found it absolutely disturbing when I pulled into the CSX railyard in Chicago and out of the 80 or so trucks sitting around me, the only noise they could make on the radio was background interference from all their $10 phone chargers and coiled up power cords to their GPS, bluetooth headset, portable DVD player, and portable satellite dishes. -
Too much other stuff. Satalite radio, bluetooth, mp3, etc.
The CB craze of the 70's died along time ago.
RIP. -
I feel that if you are not part of the solution you are part of the problem. My squelch is up pretty high, but the driver with the flat trailer tire, light out, pig tail loose, etc. that I want to talk to either doesn't have a radio or has it on. Sometimes getting beside them and holding up a microphone will get them on, if they have one. I guess they would rather hear about those problems from a guy with a badge and a clipboard than another driver.
Last year in Oregon there were some black Angus in the road, late at night. Everybody with a radio on knew about where they were, the driver without the radio hit them and then rolled his truck. I can listen to a LOT of idiots in their underwear to avoid that kind of disaster.JohnBoy, formertaxidriver, Numb and 5 others Thank this. -
Breaking News:
Heard from a driver at the TA last night..that guy FINALLY put some panties on!
Hate it for the guy that hit the cow. Not over driving your headlights will work just as well.Wargames Thanks this. -
I still have my ol CB in the attic. Trucker buddy
gave it to me. It was fun to listen to guys on HAM bands and talk to folks 1000 miles away(500W Linear). Sometimes at night 3-4 of us would be running and start telling jokes for hrs. Guess it's all different now. I don't know how anyone managed without a GPS,Cell, ect.
Wargames Thanks this.
