What's the age limit on the trucks O/O's are allowed to run? Or does it just have to pass inspection? What about emissions?

Uh idk, for basically any company not in CA. How old/high mileage of a truck can you use? Yes hiring on to a company I suppose, what else is there? (I'm a rook if it's not painfully obvious) For every state but CA, I don't want anything to do with the CARB b.s.

Every company is going to be different. There is no one size fits all answer.

Landstar does not have an age limit. But somebody like Werner wants trucks no older than 5 years old, but might accept an older truck if its in excellent condition. Swift says nothing older than 6 years.

    They all vary...

Well I'm just thinking, after learning the ropes and cutting teeth for a few years, buying my own truck and/or trailer outright (no payment = best investment) for 20-30k and going for O/O that way. I know trucks and trailers in that price range are not going to be very new and will probably have a lot of miles, but if you are pulling in 100% profit (after plates and insurance, etc) thats way better than financing a truck and/or trailer IMO.

There is no such thing as 100% profit. Just because it is paid for don't mean you are going to make a profit . It just means you don't have truck and trailer payments every month .

Well i guess I worded it wrong. But without having a truck payment, you can park the truck and not worry about the bank coming to get it. Just that your stuff is safe. Kind of a peace of mind thing.

I recall one owner operator who had an older truck that he managed to lease to one of the carriers that had age restrictions on equipment. He had practically rebuilt his entire truck over the years. He got all his receipts together and showed the carrier. They signed him up. I think that most carriers who have age restrictions are fairly rigid in their rules. I have found that the carriers that have higher paying freight don't care about the age of your truck as long as it can pass a DOT inspection and looks decent. I don't recall hearing about any carrier that had any restrictions about mileage.

Sounds good. I may only get a F-650/750 and do LTL, but who knows. i hear LTL pays better anyways. But a nice older Pete or Freightshaker would be right up my alley. Just have to see how that goes, but needed to know if I should just forget about it now or keep it in the back of my head. thanks
