Whats the deal with New York City?

Nyc isnt bad. Yeah lots of (insert explitive here), tight roads, traffic but its doable. Like 48 said a certain mindset need to be had. Not a lunatic but a tactical one. Think a few moves ahead. Timing is key. Not only for getting in or out of the city but setting up a backing manauver. Goal still applies. Go and hit mr lawyers $65,000 bmw and see how fast he runs outta the store or office. Ive held up jamacia ave at 0545 backing down 120th. Didnt hit anything. As far as nyc pay, the extra $$ is nice. I told my fm send me all the nyc/long island loads ya got. Heck, extra cash and close to home, sweet.

 

Not as bad as most say.
If your ready to leave at 17:00 go get a slice and wait an hour. You shouldnt miss the chance to get some pizza while you are there anyway

It's not that bad, I used to live in S.W. Connecticut. Doing the Big Apple is part of the job- so just get it over with and go on.

Personally, D.C. and N'Orleans intimidate me more.

Think "Houston rush hour" with a severe attitude.

 

It's not that bad. I worked for LCT and had a dedicated route delivering Foliage form Okahumpka, FL to Long Island every week (10-16 Stops, Home Depot and Franks Nursery) Knowing the area is a plus. If you don't know the area it might be nerve racking. Long Island is not bad at all but Queens, Brooklyn, Staten Island and the Bronx could be a challenge.

 

New Orleans ain't bad, go there 4 or 5 times a week now.
Not much traffic at all, of course I go in at midnight and leave at around 3AM

 

One of my first days out of training I was sent into Brooklyn. All I can say is that preplaning is a must. Don't use a GPS either. On average, I drop or PU in Brooklyn, Queens, LI, SI, or Manhattan once every 10 days. Once you've driven in NYC 4-5 times, it raises your confidence a lot.

NYC is as bad as you hear, but only until you've been 4-5 times. It's an invaluable experience that will make you a better driver. Besides the low bridges with the wrong height labeled, tight turns, no parking, bad traffic, and insane drivers, it's actually kinda fun driving in NYC. The people acting like it's no big deal are probably from the NE, and used to it. I'm from SE where nothing compares to driving in NYC. I was a nervous wreck the first 3-4 times.

Keep this in mind also... There is a big difference between dropping, or picking up in NYC, and driving through NYC.

 

You're right... If you sit back and wait for someone to let you in, you'll never get in. I use every inch of my truck to my advantage. Being aggressive definitely helps.
