No...that's not what I'm saying....Sometimes freight is pretty weird on what's moving in certain areas of the country and if you feel comfortable with your avg miles/wk...Go for it. I don't know what you have to pay for on the truck or if Swift helps out with repairs if needed...I'm sure there's discounts from them on certain things...right?

Now calculate your hometime when truck payment still must be paid.
-
to help with the calculation, I normally go home on a Monday and stay until Friday. Payment is made and I receive a check. Come out Friday and have 5-6 days to run for the next payment. Now calculate, depending on your terminal, you are a company driver and you are going home for 3-4 days, and you have to give up your truck. Then wait for another one when time to come out. There are times that I have heard that a driver has had to wait almost 2 weeks for a available truck. Now where is your revenue.
Yes, as a L/O, you have a little more control, like for example, I have never had to wait for a load on a Friday comming out of Laredo or El Paso or Fontana. I have a little more control of where to go. I avoid any freight going near certain terminals on a Friday afternoon, like PHX, Gary and Columbus. I use MAC 30 alot, and usually get some good choices, like once, Laredo to NC, and this load came out on a Friday. I run 2800/wk because that is what I want. It is not hard to get and I do not burn myself out, and never run out of hours. there are weeks that I will run hard, but when I run over 11,000/mo and I see that .09/mi going back to IEL, then I am back to my 2800.SteveH85396, scottied67 and knuckledragger Thank this. -
I am a company driver and got a call today to either come back to work (after 4 weeks out and only 2 days hometime) or turn in my truck. So I'll head down to the terminal in the morning, turn in my truck, then stop by and talk about leasing a truck.
I convinced that if I lease a new truck, runs my current 25-2800 miles a week, and manage my hometime I can earn 20-25% more than I'm currently making (not counting what I put into my maintiance account-that's extra). I know I could save a bit of money (up front) by leasing an older truck but a new truck should have lower costs per mile than an older truck for the 1st 2-3 years.
We'll see.knuckledragger Thanks this. -
FWIW, I've narrowed my choice to either a Volvo 780 (love my current 670) or a Cascadia. I like the Volvo more than the Cascadias I've driven but ultimately it's about making money. The weekly lease payment for the Cascadia is lower than the Volvo and maintaince costs are lower (50,000 mile B service-Cascadia/35,000 mile B service-Volvo) as well.
The KW T660 is an unknown quantity for me (having never driven one) and the most expensive to lease. -
What terminal are you out of?
-
Phoenix....
-
I've heard that about Phoenix.
They are the tightest of all the terminals when it comes to home time.
I guess your only choice is to take 2 days every 2 weeks. -
Thank god I live 300 miles from closest terminal, take 3 to 4 days off and truck stays home. 50k between oil changes with no bypass oil on it. Wow and they wonder why crap brakes on the engine. I would do oil samples at 15k good luck

So far they have shorted me on every home time I've ever taken. The will be the first time I've actually taken all of my time (plus a bit more) due to me.
I turned the truck in today and since I absolutely refuse to go in tomorrow to deal with tractor assigmnent it will be Monday at the earliest.
