Also remember manufacturers keep ratings artificially low so we never get near what they really are capable of. Hope he's still not weighing

All the best Shifty! Stay in touch.
Those steer weights can be a pain. THe T700 fifth-wheel stinks as far as I'm concerned. I've greased the tracks, the release pins and the lock plates but I still have to wait and jiggle the bejeezus out of my rig to get it to release and move. The dealer at home said he's tired of getting complaints about that and doesn't have any fix information on it either. He is sure the release chamber is under powered and just can't pull the keys properly.
This week I went from Vermont to Virginia to Illinois to Washington. Interesting week. My first time in WA state. Snowqualmie pass is beautiful! I get to go east through it in the morning to pick up fruit headed for TX. I dont have the hours to make the whole run so I'll go as far as possible then do a repower request in two days.
Still love the job after two and a half years. Just about time to take a vacation soon.Last edited: May 2, 2012

I have only moved the 5th wheel once in 3 years... and that was to set it where it stays today. Loaded with full tanks and 80,000 gross I will be 12,300 on the steers... empty runs about 11,800..

That is just what I do...moving the fifth wheel is hard anytime, but especially if you're loaded.

Drop the landing gear and empty the bags...that thing will slide back and forth with ease. -
Give it six months flight, with road grime, salt, dirt, and IT DOES NOT SLIDE WITH EASE, and MAY not relock, due to the amount of dirt and grime in the slider tracks.TRKRSHONEY Thanks this.

Yes that is the proper way, but it's still not as easy as empty. While you crank the landing gear down, then lower your bags, now your pins are in a slight pinch because your not level, finally it will let go and you will have to slide again because you went too far when it let go with a lurch...I am 20 miles down the road. TLea is right, see where the experienced drivers have theirs set.(usually the kingpin is centered between the drives) then put yours there and weigh that 1st load (it will probably be legal) if you don't like the weight, move it again after you empty.

Did you ever have a T700?? It is NOT that easy!!! It takes us a minimum of 30-45min, AND we have been doing this for FOUR years. The T2000 and the T660 were easy to deal with, not so the T700. As previously stated, it is underpowered and is a pain in the ##### to get it to unlock.

Hey Guys,
I just graduated from CDL school with my license and all the endorsements. I'm considering going with Stevens. I live in central Florida. I see a lot stevens trucks on us27. Do you guys run out here a lot? any suggestions?? any input would be greatly appreciated. Thanx Guys. -
Never had a 700, but did it on the 387, 2000, and 660. My 1st trainer with Stevens was very anal about "tucking the trailer in" when we were empty, so we did a lot of 5th wheel sliding in his 387. I didn't know the 700 was such a pain. I know what you're saying about sliding it too much monkey. It really is quite annoying when you miss the right tooth.
