"One of the Largest Domestic Discoveries of Oil in the Past 40 Years, the Eagle Ford Shale is a significant hydrocarbon producing formation due to its capability of producing both more gas and oil than other traditional shale plays. It contains a much higher carbonate shale percentage, upwards to 70% in south Texas. As it moves across Texas to the northwest, the play becomes shallower and the shale content increases. The high percentage of carbonate makes it more brittle and easier to frac. The shale play trends across Texas from the Mexican border up into East Texas, roughly 50 miles wide and 400 miles long with an average thickness of 250 feet.
Production of crude oil has increased from 842 Barrels Per Day in 2009 to over 7,000 BPD in 2010. Projected to be the largest domestic oil and gas discovery in the last 40 years, a preliminary estimate of production indicates a reserve in the Eagle Ford Shale that could be more than 4.7 billion barrels of crude oil, or roughly twice the size of the massive Bakken shale in North Dakota. That equates to 200,000 BPD for the next 65 years"

could you explain a little more about "merry go round"? thanks
-
Sure. From what I'm seeing most folks chase the most money. People are quitting and going across the street weekly. I'd imagine the average tenure is 8-9 mos, thrashes is what human resources told us and now I believe itpathfinder1361 Thanks this.

If and when things slow down, those hoppers may find it diffecult to get on with a new company if they have too many hops. Its happening in the OTR side now. HR peeps are getting smart about the high costs of recruiting.

Exactly Right!!!

Let me help!
The Carousel Horsey ride goes around and around, People get on on one side ride it a month or so and then jump off never touching the ground on the otherside for 50 cents more an hour to go to another Merry Go Round!! and then wash and repeat!! Get It?

As a small fleet owner... in OTR... if a driver comes to me that has been with more than 1 company in the last 2 years, I toss his resume! I can tell you that Prime now has a policy that says more than 1 job in the last year is thrown out.
I would caution you newbies... DO YOUR HOMEWORK! Pick a company that not only fits you, but you fit them. Choose the best green grass for you longterm! The grass is NOT greener on the other side if you make the correct decision to start with.
From my standpoint, when I got into the trucking business a little over 9 years ago, I spent 6 months talking to drivers and companies and doing due dilligence. I got my CDL with Prime and stayed with them.... through all the ups and downs... for 9+ years. They are the only company I have ever driven for. This is not to brag, but I now have companies coming out of the woodwork trying to recruit me to come to them now that I have made the decision to go back to the oil patch and home to Texas. I take 2-4 calls every day just from posting my resume on 2 websites. Not just trucking companies either!
Do yourself a favor... don't be a hopper! If you have skills and education other than the truckng industry that are business related, a small company might be a good fit if you want to learn and grow and advance especially if you are young. Your education and experience, coupled with your driving skills could give you a leg up on upward mobility.
If you are young and carefree with no family yet, I large oil services company like Key, Nabors, Haliburton etc, that is worldwide, could afford you opprtunites that maybe you have only dreamed about. Worldwide travel, offshore, etc. I know of CEO's that started out as janitors! Hell, Dale Jr's Crew Chief started out pushing a broom at Hendrick Motorsports!
The "world is your oyster" is not just a saying! Go be a grain of sand and become a pearl! These old farts, like me, are going to retire sooner than later! The oil patch is not an old man sport! Do your time and learn everything you can. Take every job inside the company you can and find a career path that best suits you! If they offer college tuition reimbursement, don't let that go by the wayside! Study anything and everything you can! The world is full of stupid people! Don't be one of them! Elevate yourself! Be somebody! Make YOURSELF proud! And NEVER forget where you came from! When you get to a position of power, if you've "been there, done that, and remember that", your underlings will respect you and follow you and be loyal to the ends of the earth!
My rant is done. I leave the rest of it in your hands. As a 6th generation native Texan who's 5th great grandfather fought with General/President/Govornor Sam Houston, all I ask is that you take care of Texas... enjoy its vast resources... and leave it better than you found it.
Long live the Republic of Texas! Remember the Alamo! Live FREE or Die trying!eastbound & down, 900 mile walk, dwd2010 and 3 others Thank this. -
That almost brought a tear to my eyes seriously. Great advice, and great post.Jonben Thanks this.
