scania man, my great grandfather several times back , was a reverend, he was born in the village of kilmorney, on the isle of arran, off the coast of scotland in 1751, he came to america , and died in 1824. his grave at snow hill cemetery in wilkinson county , ga is covered with rocks he brought with him from scotland. they were carried from savannah , ga by oxcart. 2 crates of them.
he knew he would never return to scotland and wished to have them on his grave when he died. and my grandmother was a mc mullen, so i gots a fondness for ireland also.
i usually just fight with myself, lolLast edited: May 5, 2012

Oh I knew you were a scot or a scot decendent !! With a sense of humour like that!! Its Alot like ours! Absolute sarcasm !!
He brought the rocks on his grave from Scotland?? Not only is that patriotic but also the people who loved him knew that it was important to him! Obviously a proud Scotsman! Sounds like a great man! You should be proud! It's people like this that made America into the truely great place it is! Not to mention his homeland! Even if Americans don't realise, America was built on strong people like this and their dreams! Isn't that what america represents? Come frome a tiny island and leave your mark! Then you're here to give me guff! It's great!! Besides, scots men are mad and great fun (or craic as we say here )Last edited: May 4, 2012

For anyone that is having a hard time when the AC kicks on, dragging the generator down, have a look at installing a Supco SPP6E capacitor.
My Dometic Commercial did not even have a start capacitor, and after installing the SPP7E (couldn't get a 6 in time), it will not drag the generator down at all. Before that, it would pretty much kill the EU3000is whenever the ac cycled on!
The SPP7E cost a whopping $29 inc tax at a local refrigeration supplier, and is truly plug and play. No wiring to modify, no holes to drill, and so on.
Just an FYI from my observations.

Great story, skateboardman.
I was born and raised in Scotland, and emigrated to Canada in my 20's. Played a lot of golf when growing up, and once mentioned to my brother I'd like my ashes cast over out old "home" course. His reply was "Sure, no problem. I'll scatter them in the rough since that's where you spent most of your time"

Don't take it so hard... I was just poking a little humor, all is good

Interesting, I'm not having that issue, but still a good piece of info.
How did you install it...?
Did you happen to take a pic or is it too late ?
I'm curious how you did this so I can relay this info to a few others that need a "Soft Start" system.
I researched your battery charger and its really only rated for one battery... I have a variable 40 up to 100 amp charger that I use now, but then again its to large to permanently install.
Did you look at this model that maintains 3 batteries ?

Excellent topic guys,i founded this wery helpful .Im just trying to sum up the whole pic here.I am debating a purchase of cheap Champion 3500/4000W Remote start Gen,and small portable Soleus or Herier 12000 BTU AC Heater unit. The EU3000is is an excellent Gen but its real costly peace of equipment. For the price of EU3000is one can get almost 4 Champion Gens.My main concern is that 3500/4000W Gens is not efficient enough to run 12000 Btu portable AC Heater. Most sources on internet states that start up wattage of 12000 Btu unit is 7000 W.It appears that any thing over 5000 Btu is just enough to cool a space small as a truck.Problem is that there is not a single half way decent portable unit that runs under 12000 Btu.If i jump to 6000/7600 W Gen fuel consumption is much higher,in range of 0.7 g per hour.Overhead units are great but it take so much more effort to put one in.Thanks for your help.

Have you looked at the Carrier diesel unit ? Cummins also sells a similar unit utilizing a 2 cyl Kubota.
You do NOT have to buy the complete system and it comes with battery monitor and a 40 amp Alt, not to mention that it also will keep your engine block warm. My generator is 3500 watts that has a built in 35 amp breaker and it has plenty of power to start my rooftop. These diesel units are designed to run forever... I have 10,100 running hours on mine. I had met a old timer that had a proheat ice unit that had over 32,000 hours on his
The rooftop only uses 1600 to 1950 watts (heat 1800 watts), but requires a combined 14.8 amps to start up (unless you install a capacitor, but that's voiding the units warranty b/c its modifying the unit) Also as I understood things, other then the Dometic commercial and the Coleman roughneck, these other rooftops will not warranty their units if its installed on a semi. Even Dometic states that they won't warranty their unit unless the semi is air ride.
If you look around, I'm sure you can even find one used in running order for a reasonable good price. I know for sure that ELW in Grove City Oh will sell you just the generating part and they do install rooftops as well, but your looking at $1800 for the rooftop installed not including the generator.
I'm just throwing this out there as an option to think about... Yes they are a little louder then a Honda, but then again, they are also diesel and your not going to have to worry about carrying gas, of filling it up every 10 hrs.Last edited: May 5, 2012
