Ok, but I would not neglect fruits, grains, legumes and vegetables and roots. Those are very important and can't be substituted by protein shakes only.
I don't buy any sugar and if I need to sweeten anything, I use natural honey. Every industrialized food that I eat as can beans, can vegetables, bread, etc, I always read the ingredients (the small letters in the back or the bottom of package) and if there's sugar, I don't buy it. My biggest difficulty is to find bread that doesn't have sugar. But I prefer to go without bread than eat sugar. There are, of course somethings that I could avoid but I don't... sometimes I eat pizza although I know the dough has some sugar(and eggs) and the tomato sauce has sugar... I think Americans are totally addicted to sugar.... The other day, I got a salad (just the salad, no dressing or nothing) and asked for oil and vinegar... They gave me some balsamic vinaigrette in a little plastic bag. I read the ingredients and it had sugar!
I don't understand mixing sugar with oil and vinegar...
So, I threw it away... Some protein shakes claim not to have white sugar. My tongue can tell me (most of the time) if something has sugar or not.
