Hey Guys,
I have a few questions after reading through a bunch of posts here. Roehl is on my short list of companies and answers to these may effect that.
1. I have read that some of you guys have auto transmissions? I am looking to start with a company that had manuals just to learn and keep my skills up as a new driver.
2. What is the deal with these cameras? It is one thing to record while driving but that thing would get covered while parked for the night. Is that ok?
3. I would be a hermit of sorts but I would spend most of my off time in Long Island, NY. Are there places to park a truck there (off the LIE)? Or would I be better off leaving it at the Bensalem yard and renting a car or something?
4. I am still debating on school on my own vs company school and Roehl seems to have a good one. If you do their school (and pay for it on your own) will you still get the same miles as someone who comes in with their CDL already? My brother went with a company through their school and was screwed on miles since he was indebted to them for a year before they were "paid back"
Thanks for all the help!

Ill answer the 1st two....
generally only the old centuries that were blume trucks have autos...all the new trucks have 10 speeds, we have some other trucks that have 13s and I know of 2 or 3 specialized trucks that have 18s...your odds of getting a 10 speed 98%.....
there are a few trucks with cameras...not many they keep trying them out, some are saying they are taking them out already...it all depends on who you ask....they are not supposed to be recording every hour of everyday...(or at least save all the video of the day) and at night if you shut your windshield curtains they will cover up the camera on the inside.. -
Good to hear Mic, those were the two things that were a big deal. I can figure the other two out as I go.
While I am asking questions, I am thinking national van fleet if I go with Roehl and I would be one of the few drivers who would want to run NYC and the Northeast. How often do those guys get up there? I want to run the whole lower 48 of course but just curious how much NE there is? -
oh if you live in the NYC area you will be loved....when I was living in Jax FL I spent a lot of time in NE... we run quite a bit of freight from NE to the midwest and back...so you will be busy...
