sorry to tell you ,but as far as i know you'll never gona get mpg with ten speed like with i-shift ,or even 13 , I hated 10 in one of my trucks so much that i replaced with 13 soon after i got the truck , but mine was used , i see 10 as bad choice , very .
KB3MMX Thanks this. -
what do you think the normal gear ratio difference is between a 10 and 13?
not really important to me since I am sold on the ishift .... just curiousKB3MMX Thanks this. -
got the truck 14 days ago and put on 7750 miles and have a 7.2 average.
pulled milwaukee to seattle with 72,000 pounds and got 6.7 with a big head wind.
pulled seattle to boston with 76,000 pounds and the best tail wind ever(lasted like 1600 miles), speeds between 62-67 most of the way, 70-75 at times but really kept the speed down and got 7.4 on that trip!
shifting freakin sucks! but happy with the numbers so farKB3MMX and Mlaz Bogdanci Thank this. -
I have a 2009 Volvo 780 D13 I shift and I can average 7.65 to 8 easy with mixed heavy and light loads. I also only drive 60-62 mph that makes a huge difference in mpg. On the subject though I was on Volvos website last night and saw the new video for the XE series setup. It's a D13 with I-shift cannot remember the rear gearing. but this things won't even go into 12th gear until 62 mph it also runs 1150 rpm at 65 mph. I really want to know what the fuel mileage is as I am getting ready to order a new truck.
KB3MMX and Mlaz Bogdanci Thank this. -
My 2012 Volvo 780 I shift is only giving me 5.7 mpg. What could be wrong with it

Gearing ?
Your cruise rpm? Hp setting , cruise speed, idle time, etc ... That's really low -
Friend is in a 2013 set up to pull flats, and he is way short mileage wise of what the xe spec ones get.
Not sure if it's a lemon other than downtime, but they have been unable to remedy the situation.
Not a Volvo aficionado, myself, but I can understand why some work well and others, not so much. His is cruising a couple hundred rpms higher at any given speed than the xe cousins do. And other things which reprogramming the drivetrain hasn't remedied. -
What engine and hp?
What trans?
What's his cruise rpm & cruise mph ... It can be sorted out just need to know if it's a spec issue or other....... There are some real stupid Volvo dealers out there that really screw up the specs on stock units for the dealer lots.
Remember, the D13 is a much lower rpm powerband motor than a Detroit or Cummins.
If you're cruising over 1400rpm , you're wasting fuel..... Generally 1050-1350 is where you want to stay within cruising for best mpg.
