2005 D12 465hp with 550,000 miles. What should I expect from the dyno report? The condition of sale is that it shows a good dyno, if it's bad then I walk away. Can anyone help me with what 'good' numbers should look like. Thanks.

OK, noted. What about hp at the wheels. What would be an acceptable number?

when i had mine run it was showing 396 to the ground and one inch of blow by.
    05 d12 13sp od 4.32 rears. at 648,896.

if you can have volvo hook it up to the computer and run a function test on the egr's, a balance test, and check the fuel pressure.

    at 761,111 my readings on the balance test were as follows: cyl 1-6: 96, 100, 100, 96, 92, 97

i was told that it provides a pretty good indicator of internal problems: ie loss of compression, or bad injectors. Pablo would know for sure since he works on them all of the time.

    Highway_Livin Thanks this.

I'd also ask them to run a cylinder balance test.

It's an electrical system check that tests the cylinder compression.

Done with the right test equipment, you will learn the condition of the batteries, starter AND the engine compression / balance.

The STE-ICE-R that we had in the army would tell us all that. No reason a commercial shop shouldn't be able to run that test as well.

I guess they call it a Cylinder contribution test in diesels.

I'm still trying to find the software for a commercial diesel for this test as well. So all I can find for the process is for cars.

man, Volvo easily pass this test with bad injectors), really Volvo ECM got self ballancing function, so when you run ballancing test with VCADs Pro ore VTT you can see correction values. Over allowed values read red. But if injector is not complitelly dead engine runs smooth

then it shouldn't be an issue if the computer is already doing it and giving you a value.

Doesn't mean you have to accept their level for bad.

But at least it's already being done.

disconnect crankshaft pos. sensor (it is used for selfballancing) and run this test one more time
