I started with Maverick two years ago right out of cdl school. I just got bumped up to .43 a mile and will get another raise tomorrow up to .44 and our tarp pay got increased to $25. Still low(tarp pay) compared to some companies but a big increase from what it was.
I have a tread called Heading To Little Rock which I have kept up since day one.
I have tried to be very honest in it.
I would highly recommend Maverick, but I have nothing to say bad about Rohel.Mic, DrtyDiesel, Cooper09 and 1 other person Thank this. -
Roehl has no business being in the reefer business..They are as screwed up as a football bat, and if you have 15+ years experience they treat you like a baby.Just my 2 cents worth

You do for now. They've been fazing those crappy tubes out, I have almost all "real" bungees now. lol

Calm down. He has a point that Roehl is very anal retentive. My wife's comment from the very start was that they want to tell you how many squares of toilet paper you should use. When I went owner operator they were shocked and insulted that I wanted to run my own business. Imagine, a business owner that wants to run his own business. They are a good place to start and for now fit my business plan, but don't get insulted when an experienced driver is upset that Roehl doesn't respect experience. Let me give you one more example- The Safe 7. There's nothing wrong with it, but they think they have improved on the Smith System. It's actually nothing more than the Smith System that has been reworked so they don't have to pay for it. The more complicated you make something the harder it is for people to remember. I have a hard enough time remembering the 5 Keys, leave alone add two more rules.
Still, if you are a new driver Roehl is a good choice. I can't speak to Maverick since I've never worked for them.DrtyDiesel Thanks this. -
Sorry. You do have a point.

As a New driver with Roehl our going to Run Mostly East and maybe Make $300 to $400 a week. It does get better after a While but the Gary,In. truck shop SUCKS big time. Any simple repair will be a 24 hour no pay down time there.

I decided to go with Roehl and have been with them for about 6 months now. The only reason i decided to go with them was because of their 7/7 option, as i just didn't want to be back on the road full time - and right now my life allows it. Brief review after 6 months?
I'll start by saying that I can now realize why they offer the 7/7 program; and it's so you can have 7 days off to recover from driving for Roehl Transport during the previous 7 days.
Equipment? Terrible. Although i will say they are updating the fleet, and i suppose the new (and newer) trucks are going to the drivers who are full time road drivers. I get that. Yes, i realize i'm out here only 7 days at a time - but the truck still get's utilized as though it's on highway on a full time basis. I've yet to be placed in any truck that didn't cut-out due to a turbo needing replacement, or the interior components being held together with a liberal amount of screws and gorilla tape. Maybe some velcro for comfy softness. Just lousy.
Operations? Hope you like the very real possibility of violating your 14 hr rule on a regular basis. "Don't ask, don't tell" seems to be "modus operandi" for this carrier, and even though the President signed off on that one for the Armed Forces - as far as HOS goes it still seems alive and well here at Roehl. I'm constantly pushed to the violation point. And beyond. You have to push back, or you're on your own for a Highway Patrol violation. Be careful. Can't wait to hear the "No way, that never happened to me!" from other drivers...riiiiggghhht. Sure it didn't.
Communication to driver? Hahahaha. Depends on who you get. Some are ok, actually. Expect little to no assistance, and you'll be setting yourself up for success! I drove for another carrier for a few years before Roehl (PRONOUNCED "RAIL"!!) so that didn't surprise me at all.
Left to wonder if anyone knows you're alive when you put in your empty call? Check. Try to call and get 10 minute hold times, if you get anyone at all? Check. Fleet Manager who cares? Bwwahahahaha.
Paid for detention and layover? Good luck with that.
Am i just bashing Rail? (Pronounced "ROEHL" ######!) No. Just look at all the other companies listed in the various forums that have drivers complaining about them too. There is no perfect company out there, so stop looking.
Many things about this industry will never change. Driver respect i believe will probably always be at the top of that list.
Did i say "brief" review? Ooops. Looks like i'm in violation. -
I get the rest of your complaints, but on this one, only you can violate your HoS. Any company has dispatch that will try to push, if you don't say "No, that is illegal" then that ones on you.
