I have see someone setup a mini gym in the truck one time, and was pretty cool. It had removable pull up bar, bungy cords, and a home made pulley setup with shock and weights for weight training. It was crude but it did the trick on them rainy/snow days.
An idea regarding fitness and the road lifestyle

I highly recommend them, by a few with different resistance and some backups cause they can break if you stretch them more than 3x the length when they are relaxed. They are as good as free weights, if not better in some ways cause of the versatility and portability. You can even use them with some body weight exercise to aid you like chinups, you could use a strap under your body to help lessen some weight etc.
They are #### strong and pretty cheap $15-20, the ones at Walmart golds gym are not bad. You can find some other that have up to 300 pds resistance.
I use to be into nutrition and body shaping for about 6 years, I can honestly say these do everything free weights have done if not more cause I isolate much better for fitness and gaining strength/muscle. to sum it up resistance bands will get you in shape if you use them, get a book on exercises to do with them via kindle or something and do it to it.cuzzin it and treedodgingfool Thank this. -
I bring dumbbells, a kettlebell, and resistance bands with me, and can always find the time to do my workout. If you WANT to get it done, you'll get it done. My workouts take priority over my driving. My company has come to realize I WILL NOT drive hard, or late, for them, and that during the day I will take time for myself. Teach your company this from the start, and they won't question you as time goes on. Either that, or they'll fire you, and you can then find a better company.
PowerOfSolitude Thanks this. -
BINGO!
I usually try to take my 10 hours off at a gym,(I have a nice list of gyms that are very trucker friendly regarding parking overnight, its very hard not to find one every night)I have 2 memberships,an LA Fitness and a Golds Gym membership, for the $80 a month between the 2 I save that much more on showers, and I talked my boss into paying me $40 extra on my per diem per month as I save him on showers, and whenever there isn't either on route I just get a 1 day pass and get it reimbursed as a shower, which is maybe 3 times a month)
Lately my best workouts are 30 minutes after waking,I hit it hard with a power lifting regimine..high weights, low reps combined with a calorie deficit that includes high protien, and knowing when to use what kinds of carbs)
I can sometimes get a split workouts in,get my heavy lifting in early...then hit another gym on my route or at the end of the day to get in some minor muscle group lifting or cardio and a shower..
Its a lyfestyle choice.
While I love what I do,I despise the many negative stereotypes I get lumped in with, and one is personal appearence. Its hard enough being a 43 year old single dude,
but I don't want to make it that much more difficult on myself by looking like that stereotype.
I think I have a pic of me posted on here, when I tell people what I do for a living nobody believes me,especially when I'm on the beach...
It takes a ton of work and mental wanna do to stay really fit on the road,95% of the other truckers would not last 2 days with the way I eat(2 cans of tuna straight out of the can,3 protien shakes,a fish or chicken grilled on my george forman with a broccoli salad or something)
Like I said,its a lifestyle choice. -
See my post above..my boss knows I'm a fitness freak
And I also carry kettle bells with me for the rare days I can't get to a gym.
I will try to stop on days I know I won't either have time or be able to find a gym
that has hills,I can run up and down holding 2 20lb kettle bells for 30 minutes -
From a 53 yr old trucker the kettlebell is a truckers best friend ask your girlfriend
-
This...because I have always found time to get in a workout/shower(which includes heavy lifting) 75% of the time while on the road..and I never have to worry about the 30 minute break..
remember,we get 14 hours to finish our daily driving time, even if you use all 11 hours..
I spend 90 minutes at the gym and I'm on my way again
And its very easy to eat healthy..protein shake (with a banana) in my blender is breakfast and such -
Plus 1 on the Kettlebell. Im a team driver and whenever I stop for my half hour or fuel I do some kettlebell swings aka the fat buster.
You can Google, "Kettlebell swing hard style". and learn that way or go see a strength first certified kettlebell coach on home time to learn the technique. Also the Turkish get up is another great exercise. Also a good book is,"Simple and sinister", by Pavel Tsatsouline.
Most people will tell you that fat loss is 80% diet and 20% exercise so worthwhile eating clean as well
