Can someone recommend a hand held CB for in vehicle use that has a reasonable range without adding an external antenna? Preferably one that has a 12volt charger.

EXTERNAL ANTENNA IS A MUST ...... sorry ...
-
Oh. Is there one that mounts to the inside of the vehicle, like on the windshield with a suction cup?
-
What you ask will not work very well. Very, very short range. Like a 1/4 mile on a good day.
-
There may be but I dont know of it ...

I've been looking at the smaller magnetic mount antennas. How well do they work (If anyone here has one)?
-
WELL ...... they work
but not very well .....
I have used HT's since the early 60's so I know a bit about them ......
The little antennas tht they sell for CB to make then into a emergency
radio are as i said not very good ...Attached Files:

What kind of range do they have?

I don't know anything about the hand held radios, but my K30 by K40 magnet mount antenna works great on my cb. I got an antenna analyzer and trimmed the whip until I got a 1.1 SWR (about 4 inches). $20 off ebay with free shipping.

Read some of the other post Drivers made about good to GREAT antennas, and radios that only get about 5 miles. And what you are looking at you may get about 1 mile with a good antenna outside. HT's (hand held) don't have alot of range. Get a good mobile station.WA4GCH Thanks this.
