    Hello,
I am fresh off school, and looking at prospective employers.

Looking at this forum as a place where I can cut past the "info" given by recruiters.

So, I will be asking for good places for a newbie to hire on.

    Thanks in advance!

what little i know i learned on here take what you learn here and apply it to yourself everyones situation is different and some ppl blame companies for thier own failings. The universal belief is C R England is a good place to stay away from, lease programs do not favor drivers ESPECIALLY new drivers. ( I lease but am older been in the world and owned my own buisness B4) Werner you will most likely be delivering family dollar or dollar general accounts, Scgneider has a good training program for tanker drivers. Some people get lucky and get local jobs but overall they are rare without experience. Trans Am works for me today but they run all automatics and many companies dont take that as verifiable driving later on.
So good luck you will never know what you really want from trucking until you get out here and do it and find what it is you don't want

Hey HVY, welcome to the world of trucking...I agree with Transam Pete for the most part, ESPECIALLY the part about leasing early on. Find a decent company to work with you as a recent grad. You're not going to get the best the trucking world has to offer right out of school, but stick with it and pay your dues. You should speak with a few recruiters if you can filter out the BS and get them to give you hard facts, by which I mean things they can back up on paper...a promise of 3,000mi a week is impossible for a recruiter to make since they don't work in dispatch and generally have nothing to do with operations. Instead try to get info about equipment, home time policy, pay, bennies, and their finishing/training programs. It helps to talk to other drivers to get the real story about how things are at a particular company (although we drivers can be full of BS too, so still be careful). I've been at it for around six years, started out at CR England as a lease op straight out of school (don't recommend that to anyone). If I could do it again I would have pulled van as a company driver for a year or two to get a feel for the operations end of the business. If you have time check out the "Bad trucking company" and "good trucking company" forums here to get an idea of who you could be looking at more closely (always remembering to keep your BS filter in place: If it sounds too good (or too bad) to be true, it probably is). Good luck!

Thanks you two! Yes, I am looking at TransAm, and do wonder about the automatics? Are they safer then manual? What is the benefit of automatic, besides not rowing your own? How hard / easy is it to get hired by TransAm?
Werner, yes, they even tell you about the Family Dollar and Dollar General accounts when they recruit. Anyone got info on them?

Captian, is CR E a place to look hard at?

Trying to fit my BS filter, sometimes hard to do as a newbie.

Transam Pete....you just provided a good piece of information that needs to be out there for us newbies. That being, Trans Am using automatic transmissions may not be verifiable miles later on with other carriers. I would hate to run for a few YEARS with Trans AM and then elect to move to another company and they NOT count my miles/experience. OUCH!!

Not to diminish your other info, it's nice to have information also. Thanks.
